PC Suite

Hi everyone

I just got a Nokia 3650 which works fine. However I cannot get the PC Suite
Control Panel as it's not showing on the System Tray. I'v tried different
IrDA adapter, my latest is the Belkin Smart Beam. I have no problems sending
files to my phone but i really want to be able to synch it with Lotus
Organiser. Any ideas

By the "PC Suit Control Panel" do you mean the Nokia Tray Icon that brings
up the Connection Manager when you double click it? This is the only icon
from Nokia that resides in the tray... (afaik)

This is started on startup by default, but you may have removed it from your
registry to prevent the icon appearing.

You can load it manually from C:\Program Files\Common
Files\Nokia\NCLTools\NclTray.exe

However, if I remember correctly, if you load any of the applications from
PC Suite it loads the NclTray anyway? Maybe I'm wrong...

Hi Adam

When you install Nokia PC Suite it tells you to double click on the Control
Panel Icon in the Taskbar, because i'm vision impaired i can't be sure of
the colour but it has a red tip, i think it's a stick, this is the one that
you tell the Nokia PC Suite what com port to work through.

I called Club Nokia Service Care and was put through to their Tech support
department. I was told that I had to put a tick in the "control manager", I
said what box? The said next to the connections listed. Well i couldnt see
one so I ticked in a black space on my screen and a tick appeared, that was
good!

She still didn't know what I was on about with regard to the PC Suite
Control Manager, (not to be confused with the connection manager), so I had
to leave that route, but as I got something I was getting less frustrated.

Anyway when I opened PC Suite it insists there is no connection at all. She
went off and checked and came back and told me that there was a BUG in their
mrouter software and it is currently being worked on in Finland. So there
you have it this is why alot of people can transfer to & from their phone
and pc, but cannot use any of the synchronisation facilities, because this
part of teh program has problems!

If it's the Nokia PC Tray Icon then it's meant to be a black mobile phone
with a green screen tilted to about the 2 o'clock position. It also has a
green sphere to the top left of it. I'm not sure what that is.

Hmmm, I'm still not sure what you're looking at. When you double click on
the Nokia Tray Icon (if you hover the mouse over it it says "Nokia PC
Suite") it loads the Nokia Connection Manager - this is where you set what
Com port you're using, or what phone you want to use if you have more than
one phone connected.

Yeah, I'm confused too. I'm suspecting you're talking about different
software as the Nokia Tray icon certainly isn't red (depends on your visual
impairment though). It also isn't called the Nokia Control Manager. There is
a Nokia Connection Manager as the person on the phone said.

How are you connecting your phone to the computer? Is it a serial cable
plugged into a Com port, or is it using Infra Red?

If you're using Infra Red you will get yet another icon in your tray which
is the Windows Infra Red wireless connection manager. If you hover your
mouse over it it will say something like "Wireless link with Nokia 7250i at
115200 bps", depending on your phone and connection speed. If you're using
Infra Red you will need to activate Infra Red in your phone's menu (it stays
on for a couple of minutes once activated), then point the IR port of your
phone towards the IR port of your computer. Your computer will make a noise
when it detects it and the phone will appear in the Nokia Connection
Manager.

If you're using a serial cable you will need to find out what Com port it's
connected to (usually Com1 or Com2), and select this in the Nokia Connection
Manager by double clicking on the Nokia tray icon to bring up the Nokia
Connection Manager. Directly below the "N" in Nokia Connection Manager is a
button with a picture of a plug on the end that will look like the plug on
the end of the serial lead (if you're using one). Clicking this brings up a
menu asking you to select the Com port that your phone is connected to. It
will most likely be Com1 or Com2 as these are the typical Com ports you'll
find at the back of your computer. You then click on OK and your phone
should appear in the Nokia Connection Manager.

In either case if it's detected a phone correctly the icon and name of your
phone will appear in a white box titled "Phone" in the Nokia Connection
Manager's main screen directly below the button for the serial connection
described above.

Is is the formentioned mobile phone - but like I said I'm vision impaired!!!
The mobile phone when double clicked on brings up the Nokia Control Panel.

The one you are on about is the "mrouter" which lists the devices
available - you have to put a tick next to the device you want to use - this
i did with Nokia's help this morning. Even Nokia didnt mention this one and
was insistant that there should only be one icon - this icon, I presume,
once configured to the required com port would probably say "pc suite" from
there on in - its the mobile phone tray icon that I'm not getting.
