    Hmm, been doing it with 6 different Li-Ion batteries over the last 4 years
    and they're all still going strong...

    The instructions that came with my 6200 say to let it discharge completely
    the first 2-3 times.

    That'll condition it if it's been a while since it left the factory.
    If the phone and battery are working properly it can't hurt, since the
    phone will shut off before it discharges the battery too far.

    The key point is that you let it run down *in the phone* until the
    phone turns off. NOT some third-party "conditioning" charger, which
    would just try to drain the battery. The charging logic in the phone
    knows how far the battery should be discharged, and then stops.

    Let the battery die down completely before the first time you charge it.
    Than after that, you can charge it whenever you want or need to. These
    type of batteries have no "memory" so it doesn't matter when you charge
    it. Also, it is much better for your battery if you ONLY use the HOME
    charger and not the car charger!

    Not according to Motorola. Their whole point is that the relationship
    is exponential with depth of discharge (DOD) rather than linear, so
    instead of getting 4 times the number of cycles with 25% DOD, you get
    5 or 6 times the number of cycles.

    So, if the battery will last for (say) 500 cycles if fully discharged,
    it will last for 2500-3000 cycles at 25% DOD. Thus, at 25% DOD you
    get somewhere between 625 (=0.25*2500) and 750 (=0.25*3000)
    "effective" cycles from the battery. That's not a huge improvement,
    only 25% to 50%, but it certainly refutes the oft-heard "fully
    discharge the battery" advice.

    Unless you're using the *correct* third-party "conditioning charger",
    in which case you can even bring back a battery that was discharged
    past the shutoff point.

    It all boils down to the effective number of hours of operation a given
    battery will supply. Does a battery last for more hours if (almost) fully
    discharged than if continually topped up..? I have still not seen a
    definitive answer to this question.

    I have 6 Li-Ion batteries some of which are 3 to 4 years old and I have
    always run them down to the point where I get the low battery bleep from the
    phone before recharging. They are all still giving many hours of useful life
    per charge. Not as long as when they were new, granted, but long enough for
    me not to need to think about replacing them just yet..!

    I also cycle the batteries on my phones; when one needs to be charged
    another fully charged one is put in place while the one I have just removed
    is charged. When the charge is completed it goes into the fully charged pile
    and waits its turn to be used again.

    I do something similar - I change batteries at the beginning of every
    month. I also have 3 and 4 year old batteries giving me almost full
    discharge times.
