Here is a question for you guys....Some of you may have seen this on one of
the "other" Sprint boards but I thought
I would post here and get your advice.
On November 22 I bought a RL2500 at the Sprint Store. I am a current
customer so I moved the phone I had on my
primary number to my 2nd line and had the RL2500 activated on my primary
line. The phones would ring to the correct
number when I left the store with my new phone. The rep told me it would be
somewhere between then and four hours
later that the Vision / Readylink would become active.
Sunday (Nov 23) I called and explained that the Ready Link and Vision still
did not work. Rep had me manually
manipulate some settings.......still no go.
Monday (Nov 24) I called again. Went thru the issues again and after about
1 hr.....still no go.
Tues (Nov 25) I called again. Went thru the isues again and after about 1
hr.....still no go.
On this call the Lvl 2 Tech issued a trouble ticket. Call back tomorrow.
Wed (Nov 26) I called back. It was explained that there was an issue with
the provisioning software and
my account. When they issued a command in their software it did not create
a work order or attempt to
communicate with the phone. The issue was further compounded with the fact
that the tech's had to go
into the software and find the original workorder that started the problem
and delete it before anything else
could be done. Call back tomorrow.
For sake of time and space I jump forward to Sat (Dec 6) Trouble ticket
still open. The tech's are very polite
and have read me the entries of what is being done. Bottom line......it
should be fixed soon......define soon?
I have called everyday and spoke to a tech to get an update. Most of the
tech's have been polite and a few have
suggested that I stop calling. One comment to me was "you do understand
they will call you when the issue is
fixed," and my answer was "I paid $300.00 for this gadget and I would like
for the gadget to work....I paid for the
right to call everyday and get an update."
I know that this is new technology and there are going to be issues
but..........<insert your advice here>
Thanks

I sure would love to see what's happening there. You=20
mention moving your old phone to another line, and then=20
setting up the RL2500 on yours. If it was done in that=20
order, I can just guess what's happened. Ready Link/Vision=20
were setup before a Ready Link phone was active on your=20
subscription.
Unfortunately, I haven't been trained in Ready Link tech=20
support. Still, I have a feeling there was a way around=20
this.

Re: Waiting for Vision / ReadyLink.......how long?
i bought a rl2500 and a VM4500 last week. i had swapped two lines on my
account for these phones, not setup new lines... and i accessed vision on
both phones within 5 mins of doing so. RL worked on the rl2500 instantly
but the VM4500 would not... said RL not ready. the csr at the store said i
had to wait 4-8 hours. i knew this was not the case. since vision first
came out and my 6 or so phones since then vision has always worked
immediately with sometimes needing to reset my vision password online first.
after waiting 2 hours and RL still not working on the 4500 i was on hold for
tech support and playing with the phone and low and behold find a setting on
the 4500 for RL that said ENABLE OR DISABLE.. and it was set to DISABLE by
default. i enabled RL and immediately paged the phone.
but i'm not too thrilled with RL thus far. too many times i have to open
the phone and hit end to clear our messages or failed attempts to connect to
my wife's RL phone. many times it says busy when we both have full service.
many times it will disconnect and we can't reconnect until we open the
phones and hit end. many times one of us will send several messages and the
other not receive them because one phone thought a RL call had been
established and the other phone did not. the most annoying thing with RL is
there is no 'page' function. in order to get each others attention we have
to say 'HEY'... or 'ARE YOU THERE?' which is very rude especially if we on
the phone (at work) or talking to someone else. we have no idea if the call
went through. unlike Nextel which has a definite page or beep tone to alert
the person you're wanting them, the best RL will do is make a muffled,
sometimes you can hear it and sometimes you can't, blip...
i think i'm going to take them back even though the VM4500 is the coolest
phone anywhere at the moment (for a flip phone).

Sorry about the confusion there. We actually weren't told at first that=20
the phone shipped with RL in disabled state. SPCS considers the=20
VM4500's primary selling point to be it's videomail capability, even=20
though RL is built in.

That's is very odd. I know that there is a visual indicator if the=20
connection is made to the other phone, but I haven't had much of a=20
chance to play with RL to see how it works in practice. I may take a=20
shot at it tonight, if I can.

Re: Waiting for Vision / ReadyLink.......how long?
if you do please give me your experience. at times RL is awesome... a nice
and convient way to get a quick message to other person. but more times
than not you have hit the side button.. hit it again, open phone hit end,
hit side button... hold side button to call.... speak one sentence then your
own phone says busy... hit side button again nothing happens... can't hit
side button again cause u gotta open phone and hit end to clear the 'busy'
message on the screen... why would i have to CLEAR a busy message?

Other than the (lack of) Ready Link features, what do you think
of the phones as..., well..., phones?

I have the VM4500 (also called the Sanyo SCP-5500 -- geez, why do they
do this two-name BS?), don't have ReadyLink, could care less about the
camera and camcorder, and it's the best Sprint PCS phone I've ever had.
The clarity is *much* better than the 4900 I upgraded from.
Only drawback -- no accessories (like belt case) available yet. I
*really* need a belt case.

Why would you spend that much money when you don't care about RL, camera or
camcorder? Why didn't you pay half the price for an 8100, it has the same
reception?

Re: Waiting for Vision / ReadyLink.......how long?
The 4500 is just awesome. The camcorder is really cool.. the pics are
descent... is what to be expected from a typical camera phone. The blue
backlight behind the keys is beautiful. The speaker phone is nice....made
my stop missing it finally from my old 4900. The speed of the menus and
loading of applications and games is faster than any other phone I've used.
I don't know why, but Vision seems to work so much faster on the phone (I
guess the faster processor). The navigation menu is a nice change from
other phones. The external multicolor LED is cool too. The phone has it
all... it's very functional... holds great signal... sound is fantasic...
and has the bells and whistles to go along with it... flashing lights, blue
keys, videos with sound. It's the best geek flip phone I think because it
doesn't look like a geek phone... it looks sophisticated and is full of toys
at the same time
Just wish RL was better. I just made a trip this evening (just got back) to
Atlanta. Using RL with my wife back in TN. I found the same usual
hassles.... but I noticed something... which makes it suck even more. The
longer you talk the more it messes up... meaning if you just speak a couple
of seconds or so per side then it worked a lot better. If I tried actually
speaking a few sentences worth of speach that lasted say 15-20 seconds it
would actually disconnect and cut me off but I wouldn't know it. I would
wait on a reply and finally get a message from my wife telling me she's
waiting on me finished because I stoped in the middle of a sentence. It did
it every time if I held the button and talked for several seconds. Surely
there's not limit or buffer that forces you to communicate using 1 and 2
word correspondence.
And as mentioned at least a dozen times throughout the night, I had to go
through the busy waits, opening flip to hit end... to connecting again... to
making a connection and as soon as I start talking the screen says lost
connection or busy. It took me literally 3-4 times as long to communicate
using RL than it did when I finally just gave up and called the phone and
made a regular phone call. If all we needed to do was say 'hey'.. then
'hey' back it worked. As soon as we tried to actually speak a full English
sentence it went to crap.

Speakerphone. I've been waiting for a good Sanyo flip with a
speakerphone, and the 8100 doesn't have it. Went in to buy a 5400, saw
the 5500, and couldn't resist -- even though it was $80 more.

Is there a setting for the RL tone? Nextel phones have a distinct single
note sound that's become a bit of a trademark, much like the Nokia tone
or the dumb sound playing when Claire starts talking. The RL 2000 I've
played with had a polyphonic tone. Try setting one that is shrill and
uses single tones, if that's an option.
