What the hell? This is the third time you've asked the question, and answers
have been supplied ... by a few folks.

What's dumb isn't the question but that you've asked it a total of
three times (that I've seen so far), and it's been answered extensively. Go
to Google.com groups archives if your cable company server doesn't save
postings.

I may have posted it 3 times, however this is the first time I've seen the
posting...Roadrunner in Austin has been having lots of problems with the
news servers this week. I assume that is/was the problem..
Sorry for being a pain in the ass.....

Welcome to Road Runner! <G>
Here are your answers...
-------------
There's no way to remove these functions from the phone... The answer
is just don't use them. (I'm assuming you don't pay for Vision.)
I, too, use the phone just as a phone (and, occasionally, as a modem).
The idea of different ringers, screen savers, etc. absolutely eludes me.
Take care!
Larry
-------------
As Larry pointed out, no ... you can't as it's part of the firmware of the
phone. You might take a look at the Nokia offered by SPCS, but that has the
same features you mention above.
Just use the phone as a phone, and don't worry about it ...
Bob
-------------
No. Of course, removing those features wouldn't make the phone smaller
or lighter, so there's no disadvantage to leaving them in there. It's
actually not a bad thing - your phone has to have a display, some
buttons and a certain amount of processing power. With very low capacity
memory chips falling out the market, they tend to buy chips that support
larger firmware. So, many of the features are things your phone's
hardware is capable of doing anyway. The Nokia 3588i is probably the
simplest phone currently in the Sprint lineup. Not much smaller or
lighter than the Sanyo 4900 anyway. Even there, you'll find three games,
calendar, over a dozen ringers, a color screen, and a number of
(non-animated) wallpapers.
I'll trade a Qualcomm QCP-2700 for your Sanyo 4900 though. My Qualcomm
has less than 20 minutes lifetime useage on the timer, and has a
monochrome display, six ringers, all of which sound like a phone. It's
dual-band, tri-mode, and places phone calls. It has no games, no
browser, no planner, no alarm clock. It does show the time.
