I've noticed that I have to have the phone connected to the computer for
about 30 seconds before the PC will recognize it. Is the phone actually
dialing when you get this error?

5500 Conection Problems, anyone else having problems?
Not real sure what the problem is, but when i try to dial out (#777)
alot of times it tells me that there is a problem with the modem. I
have reformatted 3 times and tried different drivers. I am starting to
think that maybe it's my data cable. Here's a link to the cable that I
am using:

I was curious if anyone else was having simialar problems using this
phone.

No, if you have ready link enable, before it dial it will put a red
bar through the ready link button and then say "Data Connection" most
of the times whe it does it, it never puts the bar through the Ready
Link icon, kind of like it never even see's the phone.
Also for what it's worth I was initially trying this on windows xp pro
and had the problem, the last time i reformated i put windows me on it
just to see if it was maybe a driver issue with xp, but it does the
same thing.

I had that happen *a lot* on my 4900, but it seemed to vary from day to
day or connection to connection. That makes me think it's something
about the Vision network itself. It seems to happen much less with the
new 5500 -- I don't know whether to attribute that to the phone itself
or to random coincidental factors -- but it does still happen.

I'm assuming when you "dial 777" you are using a laptop connection; if
so,my 5400 is driving me crazy--one day it's perfect, next day it's
turn the phone on and off, reboot the computer---re install the modem,
etc, etc-- never had this problem with 4900---I'm assuming it's my
phone, since if I get one of the error messages, usuually no phone
connected, and the network on the computer showd no modem, etc--if i
hook up the old 4900, it will almost immediately seem to work
normally---but the phone is not active, so really can't tell--I have
considered activating the 4900, and then I see sprint is hasving
problems with esn changes.
This has happened to me since the first day I got the phone, back in
november, had posted questions similar to yours---seems that most
folks are having no problems; this along with the 4900 which still
appears to works normally, seems to indicate the phone itself---which
brought up another question I had posted, about warranty coverage of
this--since Sprint may "frown" on laptop useage, if I go the the
sprint store and try to explain this, I may between a rock and a
Sprint Store---your thoughts please.
