    Hello!

I am a Sprint PCS customer. My orginal cell phone was either lost or
stolen. (unfortunately I did not have the replacement plan) So I am
looking to buy a new Sprint PCS phone. I have a budget of $300-$350
and usually use the phone for work. I would like to use the phone to
send and receive calls, messages, check emails (emails has to be
through Outlook for the web on a web browser), and maybe take
    pictures.

What is the best phone for the money (features and ease of use) and
    what is the most reliable?

    Would love all suggestions!

    Thanks,

    Anita Sinha

The Samsung I500 is a frantastic phone that is capable of just about
anything. It cannot however take pictures. How important are the pictures
to you? I have not a single complaint about my I500. I also use a Sanyo
VM4500 and it is a great phone too that CAN take pictures and even 15 second
    video clips.

    1) Use Google' Newsgroup feature, or reset this newsgroup and go back and
    look at the discussion on
    8100's vs 5300's ...
(No arrows please... I know this person has MORE money to spend, but why
spend more than you have to!)

    2) When you decide on a phone, bargain hard with to see if you can get a
    'deal' on the new phone...
Shop around..Best Buy, Radio Shack...and Sprint..

    3) Use Google to search on other site with opinions on the phones you are
    interested in....

    5) Even though your didn;t have 'replacement' insurance, how much did you
    really lose?
Look at today's price of the phone LESS the deductible LESS all MONTHLY
    PAYMENTS,,,
    Then calculate your true 'loss'..

    Go to EBay!

Or, I believe that if you have had the same phone online for 18 months
or more you can get the same discount that any other "new customer"
gets, but unless you are stuck on getting a "new" phone, like one of
the other posts, used phones are available on ebay for little of
nothing, and I buy several each year, to try different ones, for both
myself and others--and I try to always carry a spare handset when I
travel, just in case. And you can always resell on ebay. However don't
plan to lose your phone on Christmas or New Years' day like my
wife---the online esn chanher would not work for a vision phone, and
c/s was shut down for holiday---but next day all was well again

Re: Which Sprint PCS phone should I purchase?

I have the Samsung VGA1000/A620. This phone has some great features,
but it also has some serious bugs. The most serious, IMO, is that
anytime you receive a large text message such as a 'short mail' or
'picture mail' notification, the phone will not receive or make voice
calls after that. If you launch the web browser and exit, then you are
able to make voice calls again. I have had 4 phones, and they all do
this, plus my son's phone does this as well.

There is supposed to be a firmware update to fix this problem soon. I
would not recommend anyone buying this phone until the problem is fixed.
I'm surprised that Sprint continues to sell this model. I bet they
get a lot of returns. I will give is a few more weeks before I return
mine to Costco. (Costco as a great return policy)

One this and a couple of other problems are fixed, this will be an
    awesome phone.

Well, let's see now, the Sanyos have all those features and have received
more positive review than any other models offered by SPCS. In saying that,
the Samsung 1000 has all the features and the review have been fairly
positive. You mentioned that you want to send TM's. The newer Sanyos have
the new interface for real SMS, if and when SPCS ever releases the new
    product.

As to email, that's a server situation where you can set up all emails to be
forwarded to another email address to be accessed through Outlook.

All said and done, you didn't mention whether you want a clam shell phone or
a candy bar model. Whether you want speaker phone capability.

Methinks you need to go down to your local SPCS store and check out all the
models, to see which one fits your needs.

Not being funny, but aren't all the phones being sold now pretty
good--it might be harder to name a *bad* phone, than the *best*
    one--as that is a personel choice--myself, I go with the SAnyo's of
all varieties (for sprint) as I have found them to work a little
better in the fringe areas also I have had screen failures, etc with
sams, but I still miss some of the features which my old samsungs (and
new ones) offer, and from what I read here, the sams may work just as
well---but there are a lot more *defensive* statements made in behalf
of the sams, than the sanyo's---my verizon phone is an old sam t300,
which although not perfect really does a decent job, and the battery
life is acceptable(wish it had a speaker phone.)

The problem is probably mental, as I used a bunch of the sams (in the
past), (not had new one for going on 2 years)--my first *used* 4700
would work in places none on the sams would make a connection, and the
4900 and 5400 seem even better.

And if samsung can make one just or nearly as good as the sanyo's, my
problem is "WHY DIDN'T THEY MAKE MY OTHERS ONES AS GOOD AS THEY ARE
    SUPPOSE TO MAKE THEM NOW"?

Sprint is the evil empire of false billing, as most know. Sprint
service sucks, their phone staff in India sucks, and their morons in
the store locations suck. The people at Sprint ripped me off, lied to
me, and the list goes on. Sprint will burn a customer any chance they
can get. They will nickel and dime you as long as you have service
with them. They are well know for putting extra charges on you
billing statement and letting fight for your money back on a monthly.
I give the way Sprint deals with customers a ZERO. SPRINT SUCKS.
    Bastards.
