What's the best, if any, warranty plan for a new Treo 600?
The choices I see now are Sprint monthly insurance, Best Buy plan or CompUSA
plan.
My Sprint insurance is $3.25 / month that I got in 1997 with my original
phone. I still pay it for my Samsung A500 phone today, but I'm not sure what
it really covers.
Best Buy's plan is $79 (I think) and covers you for three years.
CompUSA's is more than $100 but it's a five year plan.
Anyone have any opinions on which of these plans I should get. Or, should I
get any of them.
Thanks in advance.

I got the Best Buy warranty. I've heard bad things about BB in general on
this type of warranty, but good things specifically on their coverage of
phones.
Moreover, in three years, by the time I'm sure my un-replacable battery will
have worn down, they replace with what they currently sell, and give you the
option of paying the difference from your receipt price.
I think that the high end phone of three years from now will probably still
sell in the $500-600 range, so in essense (If you want to look at it this
way) you're buying TWO phones at the same price.
But doesn't Sprint's cover theft?? Best Buy's doesn't.

You might want to take a look at this thread on phonescoop.com:

This guy claims the BB warrantee doesn't cover broken screens anymore and
that the best one is Sprint's insurance.

I signed up for the warranty with Sprint. Remember the Treo600 COMES
with a 1 year warranty againgst defectst etc. Yesterday I discovered
that the speaker (the one for my ear, not the speakerphone speaker)
intermittantly cut out as if it has a short in it. I called Sprint and
today I have a replacement phone whihc I will charge over night, and
tomorrow morning hotsynch everything over to the new handheld and that
should fix the problem. Supposedly this will cost me noting.
We will see. I was pleased that Sprint honoured the warranty in the same
way the Palm did for me all those years.

Was your replacement Treo 600 a refurbished unit? If so, did it have its
own 1-year warranty, or the standard 6-mos refurb warranty?

Actually, the standard 90 days on refurbs is if you buy a refurb.
Sprint's TOS states that they have the right to replace a Treo 600 under
warranty with a refurb, but that your warranty on that refurb shall be
the remainder of your original one year warranty or 90 days, which ever
is longer.
FWIW, I received a replacement Treo 600 today and it was a brand new
palmone unit - new logo, and NO time or data on the counter. And the
phone's burned in warranty date was 2/7/2004. So I am wondering if
something craters outside of my one year, will someone in the store know
this or will they go by the date in the phone... Hope I never have to
find out.
