I am currently am an out-of-contract SprintPCS customer. I am looking to
get a new phone but I have only been a customer for 15 months so I dont
qualify for the rebates (18 month req). I am also needing a new phone
number since I have recently moved to a new area. My question is would
Sprint consider a phone number change and an equipment change a 'new line of
service' in order to qualify for the rebates?

    Thanks

If you have to change your number anyway and you're out of contract, just
cancel and sign up again. Then you can get the phone rebate. They *might*
and I mean *might* even try to entice you into staying if you act like you
are going to go somewhere else. But even if they don't you can just cancel
and resign up as a new customer, which I think (I'm not totally sure) would
qualify you for the rebate. I would think that signing up as a new customer
*should* allow you to qualify for any new customer promotions.

Why then can't you reverse the order, get a "new" line with a new number
andthen when you get home, cancel the out of plan one.

In my case though, one of my scp5300's is out of contract and the other
still is under one, so am I technicvally still under contract if only one of
my two phones is out of contract?

Make sure you check out the coverage before you sign a new contract though.
Don't do you any good to find out you signed up for another year and can't
    use the service. ;-)
Drive test the heck out of it.

At that point I agree with the below.
Don't be afraid to call back if you don't like the deal the CSR is giving
you or they don't want to deal at all.
    Within reason of course. ;-)

If you cancel your current Sprint PCS service, you may not be able
to sign up as a new customer for 6 months or so. Rob, can you find out
    any specifics?

just call and complain to customer service... they will eventually
help you though you might have to call a few times to get a lucky
    person
