OK, I've waded through hundreds of posts that I found by searching on
"Sprint, PCS, Retention", and read the success stories of folks
getting sweet deals, but so far I can't find where anyone posts
exactly how to get the Retention Department.

I've been a Sprint PCS customer for 4 years, and currently do not have
a contract commitment. I plan to stay with Sprint anyway, so signing
up for more time wouldn't be a problem, particularly if it got me some
sort of credit or more AT minutes (I currently have 450 AT, Nationwide
    LD, 2000 8 pm N/W, for about $34).

So, do I just dial *2 and ask for the "Retention Specialist"? What is
the process for bargaining, and what's the current set of incentives?
    I assume they change monthly.

    thanks,

    Martin

    Robert,

Don't know where you got this information. I called the number you
provided, and it reaches a department at Sprint called "Consumer Gold".
They also told me that the Retention Department at Sprint no longer
exists. Can that be correct? If so, then I guess that's why I couldn't
find any posts telling how to reach them.

Yes you did- Cancellation and Retention are the same group. If you call
tocancel, they try to retain you.

    There is no "retention" group.

One calls, says they're off contract, they like the deals on T-Mobile, what
would Sprint offer to retain you?, you've heard tell they can give you 300
Minutes for $30 with 300 bomus minutes and 8 PM nights and weekends.

Let's say a customer calls and says they want to cancel- period. Are you
saying that the cancellation is processed with no questions asked, or is the
caller transferred to a group that tries to talk them out of it?

In the distant past, I was thinking about cancelling. The first CS Rep that
I spoke to was ready to cancel my account, immediately. The second offered
    a retention deal.

I don't know whether things have changed, or it still depends on who you
    speak to...

The reason I asked this is because Sprint would be the only major provider
to not attempt a save with a group trained in retention, if they just cancel
    the account.

Oops- didn't look real close who posted- thought it was someone who knew.
Nice try, Phil- you have referenced them yourself in the last few days.

THERE IS NO SEPARATE RETENTION GROUP ANYMORE.
Cancellation CSRs have a retention quota and depending on how they personally
are doing will affect how good an offer you get. Some decide they are mind
readers and will go straight ahead and Cancel you.

Mind readers? Why shouldn't a cancellation department go ahead and
attempt to cancel you? If you are calling a Cancellation Department in
the first place, why should you not expect for the rep to go ahead with
    your wishes of cancelling?

    ===========================

I have no problem if that was done on a consistant basis. The point is: it
isn't. In may cases one may be offered a retention deal, and unless one is
familiar with what is frequently offered, one might happily settle for far less
    than could be obtained.

Thus I point out that currently, many folks get offered:
$40/month 750 Anytime minutes, 8 PM Night and Weekends unlimited.

Many SprintPCS CSRs have said so. here on USENET and on
    http://www.sprintpcs-sucks.org

I will say however that it has also been said tahat its somewhat different and
somewhat differently enforced by different managers at different call centers.
