While you are waiting for folks to pipe in here, you might want to check the
reviews provided on http://www.phonescoop.com/ . Just click the phone link,
and then go to any of the models you might be interested in.

Do you mean the WM4500, aka Sanyo4500. It is similar to the
RL 7300, but also has a camera, while the 7300 has a protective skin.

Both are "ReadyLink" phones which while not as fast as Nextel walkie
talkie works well for many people, and when turned off, leaves you with
an excellent Speaker phone. When ReadyLink is enabled, battery life
    between charges is poor.

And most Users think highly of the Sanyo's ability to receive a signal.

as an owner of the 7300 I speak highly of it --- great 'feel' to it --- and
as mentioned great reception and is ruggedized. The speaker is probably the
best that Sanyo's had to date. Perhaps the best find of the phone is SMS
capability ---- which is probably a good replacement for a lot of ready link
    (walkie-talkie type) functions.

The battery is just too physically small to have the great standby / talk I
enjoyed with my older Sanyo 4900 (also a great phone) ---- but with Ready
Link off it's totally acceptable (3 to 5 days real life use). With RL on and
in my fringe area (more power used) the battery lasts a day --- which ain't
all that great. I'd think 2 days if you lived where there's a stronger
    signal.

Sprint is offering a RL kit on the web site, for both fones, that has an
extended battery / car charger / ear piece for the price of an extended
    battery -- $59.00.

Not being used to it RL seems to be cumbersome to run ---- it's fast enough,
once the connection is made, but its counter to normal conversation --- at
least for me. (as a general note on RL --- the tone that notifies you of a
RL call seems too quiet --- even with it turned up full blast. A minor nit,
    I guess).

You'll love SMS (I think only on the 7300) --- and seems to be a fine
    replacement for RL.

All this said, if you want a camera fone you'd need to get the other one
    (Sanyo 5500 / SPCS VM4500) <grin>

The Sanyo 4500 is a long-discontinued 2g candy bar phone. Speaker phone,
good reception, nice, loud ringers, pleasant interface. The VM4500 is
the Sanyo 5500, IIRC. It's hell to keep the double names straight.

i just got a RL 2500, which is identical to the 7300 but not ruggedized. i
didnt like the color scheme of the 7300, and the rubber made it difficult for
the phone to slide into my pockets cleanly. its a great phone, and i hate
camera phones, so i tworked out well.

ready link disabled from teh menu, or just simply not being used saves the
    battery?

Disabled! Disable ReadyLink and the ReadyLink phones (including the
    RL2500) have acceptable battery life.

With Ready Link enabled, the phone is in regular contact with the
network to "announce" its availability for ReadyLink use. A necessary
capability for ReadyLink functionality, but a major battery drain.

As Phyllis (aka Robert M --- and 60 other names) mentioned you need to
disable it to see any increase in battery life ---- RL is a battery killer.

Also, I also see you mentioned that the 2500 is functionally the same as the
7300 ---- which I'm not sure is entirely true as I'm not so sure the 2500
does SMS. Might be wrong ---- but that's what memory tells me.

I'm pretty sure the 2500 doesn't support SMS ---- tho who knows, it might in
the future with a firmware change. But according to rumor I'd not bank on
    it.

And there's a world of difference between SMS and shortmail ---- one is
usable in the real world (sms) and the other isn't (short mail). If they've
got a 7300 at the store ask them to show you the differences between the two
systems --- then hand them the 2500 and say "I'll take that one" to the
    7300.

They lied. Wouldn't be the first time they lied to make a sale.
