The Sanyo 8100 is clearly the worst cell phone i've ever owned. I'd
prefer to have my old Motorola Startec or Nokia 2170 brick to this
horrific beast. At least the sound quality on those older phones
    matched my home landline.

The Camera is cute, but it's low resolution (non-VGA), makes it pretty
    worthless.

The worst thing about this handset is that it is the user-hostile
interface. The user interface and the sound quality on this phone
sucks. It takes you at least 6-10 keystrokes and navigating menus and
submenus to do anything; and many of the very simple things i want to
do aren't even possible. Here are some examples:

*want a simple one tone beep to tell you when you get a voicemail
message? Forget it! All of the voicemail and txt msging alerts are no
shorter then 10 seconds, and it won't shut up until you respond.
*want to have your phone both vibrate and ring softly at the same
time? Forget it! The vibrator is extremely weak and hard to feel.
*ascending volume for your ringtones? nope
*want to set an alarm clock? well you can set a "call alarm", after
going into your calendar and setting a reminder to call yourself,
which takes about 5 times as many keystrokes as withdrawing money from
    an ATM.
*want to use a bodyglove with your phone while looking at the caller
ID display to see who's calling? Forget it. As soon as you give the
phone a slightest touch it answers the call, even if you don't open
    the phone fully.
*want to use the back button to delete text messages after viewing
their associated pics? Forget about it. It's going to take you no
less then 12 keystrokes to delete your text messages after viewing
    them.

It's not a difficult phone to use. It's just painfully inefficient.
It takes way way way too many keystrokes to do basic functions- like
navigating to through your call history, or assigning custom ringtones
    for different people.

There are also a few bugs with this phone, which make it's
    voice-dialing option unreliable.

I can rant for many pages about how horrible this phone is. All of
the bells and whistles are just smoke and mirrors. Sanyo probably
saved money by outsourcing the engineering of this phone to Zimbabwe
or something. I find it highly doubtful that any engineer who
developed this phone actually used this phone, or that Sanyo did any
comsume Q&A for this product of any kind.

Save yourself the misery. Never buy this phone. I'll never buy this
phone, or any Sanyo ever again.

It's now being superceded by the 8200.

Somewhat agreed. The images are pretty good for viewing on a handset.
Even the VGA cameras on the newer phones come up short. There is a
megapixel camera tentatively slated for Q4 release, but it's a pda.
(note that we don't always know what is coming far in advance, so there
may be others) Even my 3.2 megapixel Canon has its limitations.

Download something different, and the problem will be fixed. Visit
3gupload.com or myphonefiles.com. I think all phones should come with at
least one high-pitched and non-polyphonic (monophonic?) ringtone. These
are usually louder and are safely professional. I changed my ringer
habits after a Missy Elliot ringtone I made fired off while I was
meeting an elderly bank manager for a small business loan. (Musi ques /I
    sews on bews/I pues a twos on que zat/Pue zoo/My kizzer/Pous zigga ay z)

Maybe not a fix, but lower pitched and polyphonic ringtones tend to be
much quieter, even at maximum volume.

Yes, thankfully fixed on the 8200.

Try a hard plastic clip or slip case. You could also turn off the answer
with flip option, so the phone answers on the send key instead.

Make sure your phone is running firmware 1.116SP. If it isn't, visit a
    Sprint Store for an upgrade.

The UI is a little rough looking to me. The performance of the phone has
generally been reported to be good. It sounds like you should take your
handset to a Sprint Store for the upgrade, and ask them to check the
phone to make sure its performing to its fullest.

On the RL2500 you can turn off "Auto Answer" so that doesn't happen. I
woulda thought the 8100 has some setting hidden in there for that.

Oh well. The 8100 is the best phone out of the dozen or so I've owned.
Not a single problem. The camera is very mediocre, but who cares. The
    phone performs great.

8100 is the second best phone I've ever had. Best was a 50 watt
    Motorola eleven channel VHF one.

It was given to me by Sprint for free when my old LG phone started
experiencing strange glitches. I was happy that Sprint gave me the
phone for free. It seemed like a good phone at first.

Most of my complaints are regarding the user-hostile interface, which
you really can't experience until you've used your phone for a while.

This phone is fine for people with lots of patience. I have none.
When i want to redial a phone number, i don't want to have to go
through 9 keystrokes to pull up a menu that has a phone number i
dialed 3 outgoing calls ago. That totally defeats the purpose, as
it's faster for me just to dial the phone number then it is to pull it
up from the outgoing calls list. The same goes for the addressbook.
ALL other phones i've had don't make you go through so many keystrokes
to pull up a phone number.

I also have no patience for phones that won't do what i want them to.
When i press the 'back' button, i should go to the last menu i was in.
That's NOT the case with the 8100.

If you have patience and you don't mind staring at the screen while
navigating a maze of menus to do anything, then the Sanyo phones are
fine for you. If you're like me and you like technology to be a
servant for you rather then the other way around, then avoid the Sanyo
    at all costs.

Well, I have a Sanyo 5300, and it took me about 5 seconds and 6 keystrokes
to call the 3rd outgoing phone number dialed. As to the phone book, it would
have taken me a lot longer as I have around 150 names in my phone book.

I don't understand this, as the interfaces for the 8100 and 5300 are fairly
similar. and when I hit the back button, it goes back to the prior screen.

I don't know whether this will help or not, but you might want to see
whether your firmware is up to date. You can compare what your phone shows,
to the details listed on this URL.

something annoying that i first noticed was that when i
opened the phone and pushed 'TALK', the voice call menu box
would pop up, and at the bottom of the screen would be the
last number dialed... push OK, and down CALL, and there you go...
i have since learned that to avoid the voice call pop up
menu, i should just start dialing, or hit Right arrow to
take me to the phone book...

And allegation you've made time and again, without even an=20

That phone, for two months straight, sold faster than we=20
