I thought I was going deaf until I used my husbands Verizon phone and
found that I could hear the person I was talking to very well. I've
had this phone for a year and I am so tired of saying..what? what?
that even though it is in perfect condition..I want a new one. Does
anyone have a suggestion for the perfect phone for HEARING the other
speaker. I like a flip..the camera is fun but I mostly would like to
hear. I think the Bluetooth deal is cool too..but the last time I
stopped at a Sprint booth in the Mall....they said they didn't have
anything with the bluetooth capabilities

Yes I'm baffled as to why Sprint and Sanyo seem to be OK with the Sanyo
8200/7300 series. The earpiece sound quality is so bad I believe it
should be discontinued. But they keep on selling it.

Two quick items:
1) Is the FIRMWARE (not to be confused with PRL) up to date? s/b 1.116SP
Must be updated at a Sprint Store. Some Radio Shack's (I think!) have the
equipment do do so. SprintExpress stores do not.
Some of the firmware dealt with volume issue I believe... but I thought it
was from HIGH volume...
2) Have you ever had it checked at a SPRINT center? The phone may have been
physically defective?

sensitive 'sweet spot' for the ear piece. Mine, the 5300 has one hole...
Mis-position your ear to that hole, and sound is bad!
B) Some people feel that model, at the latest patch level emphasizes bass
range more than others.
C) At 18 months you get a 'new to you' credit of $150. If you are close, the
phone is good, and firmware is up-to-date and all checks out... check out a
earpiece... Some people say that is an improvement.
D) If you decide to switch phones now... Remember, at least from my
perspective, the SANYO line is the BEST for those in weak signal areas.

If you have it on your ear ~perfect~ it does work a bit better..but I
can't find that sweet spot very often....I did buy a head set for it
and when I have it on...my husband comes in and order 2 cheeseburgers
and a coke to go...plus it doesn't fit in my purse
I think my signal is good..I just want to be able to hear what the
signal is bringing to me
I was hoping that someone had a super-duper phone they could recommend

I'd agree with Joe on all his points. About the other question in Nicki's
post, especially about the sweet spot on the phone and listening to the
other party. I just replaced my daughter's Samsung A500, with a LG 325,
that does have Bluetooth. Also got her the Bluetooth ear piece as well. She
loves the phone and earpiece and is getting a far superior signal in her
apartment, where coverage would fade every now and then. (She lives right on
the fringe of coverage and even my 5300 will switch to analog sometimes in
her apartment).
She can leave her phone on the nightstand or in the kitchen, put on the
earpiece and voice dial any number in her address book, anywhere in the room
and even in the living room.
There have been some reports here about the Bluetooth earpiece crapping out,
so my daughter is aware of the problem and to look out for it.

Lucky lucky daughter..Do you mind saying how much the phone and ear
piece cost? Is the LG 325 a samsung? The problem with the ear piece
is what? I think nothing is cooler than using a phone with those ear
pieces. I see people with those out and about and I finally went and
asked one guy what he had..but he had a different carrier than Sprint.

I had the 8100 and didn't like it for the same reason, I also didn't care
much for the camera since the images from that camera really sucked. SInce I
usually carry my Minolta dImage Z-1 (3.2MP) I never used it anyway so after
only five months I bought the RL2000 and without any doubt it is the best
phone I have ever owned. Before I had the 8100 I owned two Samsung N400s and
although I liked the ringtones I didn't like the fact that the phone would
lock up and drop calls. When the phone locked up I would have to remove the
battery and then replace it, then turn the phone back on. This was very
annoying when it would happen when I was on the phone with someone.
They don't sell the RL2000 any more but they do have an updated model, these
are not flip phones though. I'm not sure of the model number. I haven't seen
any Sprint phone with Bluetooth at all but I could be wrong. The RL2000 has
a speaker phone that actually works very well, voice dialing built in and a
slew of other features including incredible battery life.

When you say speaker phone..do you mean they work like a Nextell? The
RL is what .... a Samsung? I'm having the worst time finding these
numbers and what phones they go to. The only reason I like flip..is
that they don't dial themselves but I guess I could trade the flip for
some sound. Is voice dialing an extra $ feature. They closed the
Sprint store close to me and I have only seen this counter at the Mall
and the guy didn't know much. Do you buy your phones from Sprint..or
someone like Amazon?

.. As for the cost, I bought it @ a SPCS store. Phone was $229.99, Body Glove
Blue Tooth Headset was $99.99 and the belt holster was $4.99 (I received a
$15 credit for buying two accessories at the same time) and NC tax was
$25.12. Total cost was $360.09.

No, it's a Sanyo ... RL stands for Ready Link, which is similar to Nextel's
Push to Talk two way radio feature and available on number of phones.

I'd suggest checking out the Sanyo 7400 ---- it's super-duper in a number of
ways, but mostly in the sound quality and, unfortunately, cost. I had a 7300
and thot the same as you, that I was going deaf --- but one listen to the
7400 I figured out it was the 7300. Spoke to the wife last night, who didn't
know I bought the 7400, and near the end of our chat she asked me why I
wasn't saying "what" so much and I had to fess up about the phone (and the
$349 list). Her reply was positive, and that as long as she didn't have to
keep repeating herself it was fine with her.
The 7400 is a clamshell phone with camera --- and fast vision. You might
give it a try.
