Hi,
I'm curious how many people are taking advantage of the $15 long
distance plan that is available to SprintPCS customers? If you don't
know what I'm referring to, click this link: http://tinyurl.com/4msbe

I would look a bit more.
Does this include the phone line?
Does this include the FCC access charge...about 6.50 month
Does this include the Universal service charge?
Suggest you read this and inquire some more?

A lot of these offerings don't make it clear that it's $X per
month (plus whatever taxes, service charges, etc.), regardless
of whether you talk for one minute or an "unlimited" number of
minutes.
For those who spend days on the phone, it's worth it. For others,
not even close.
My phone company charges $0.05 per minute, up to a maximum of
$20. After that, all calls are "free."

Re: $15 Unlimited Residential Long Distance
The $15 service is only for the "monthly recurring charge." There are
other fees, just like with any phone service.
I've had Sprint local service at two homes in Florida forever. Sprint is
our local carrier. However, my long distance service had been with MCI,
then Alltel, then Verizon, etc. Sprint had not been competitive for me
in LD, until now.
Last summer, when I added Sprint's DSL to both home locations, I learned
of the unlimited nationwide LD packages. I then switched to Sprint for
LD and the packages and have been happy ever since. The price is
dependent on locations, so that in one home I pay $24.99 and in the
other I pay the $15 for the same unlimited nationwide LD. I've had
these plans now for 1 year and only 2 weeks ago switched from Nextel to
SprintPCS. Since I already had the LD packages, I did not qualify for
it again :-)
The monthly bill for my $15 home breaks down as follows:
$15.00 for the "monthly recurring charge" (basic LD service)
$0.99 for "carrier cost recovery charge"
-$0.75 credit for going thru my insurance company (USAA) to sign up for
the service
....for a base charge of $15.24 for the basic service.
Then come the taxes:
Local Comm Service Tax : $0.79
Fla Comm Service Tax : $0.36
Carrier Universal Service Tax : $0.95
Federal Excise Tax : $0.46
Total taxes : $2.56
Grand Total : $17.80 per month
I had a total of 1,840 LD minutes last month from that home, all for $17.80.
My other home came similarly priced, the difference being the base LD
service is higher (at $24.99) so the ensuing additional taxes were
proportionately higher. That bill came to $29.54 (for 2,368 LD minutes
used), including the same set of taxes and credits.

Uh, no... why would it? It's long distance.
You can't get regular phone service from Sprint unless you live somewhere where
Sprint is the local phone company, like Las Vegas (LV is the biggest city where
Sprint provides local service).
$15 per month for unlimited long distance is a great deal if you would normally
make calls amounting to more than $15 per month. Otherwise, you might want to
take advantage of another service from Sprint or another long distance carrier.
We use Sprint 50 at Home (50 minutes free per month, 7 cents/minute after 50
minutes.) Maybe someone else's package would work better for you. You'll have
to figure it out yourself...

Um, no. That's just the monthly recurring charge for the long distance
plan. No long distance plans offered by any of the traditional wireline
telco's include "the line", the phone number, or any calling features such
as caller id.

The price also doesn't include any of the various taxes, surcharges, and
fees.

Nope, don't need to. I already know the fine print, and was just curious
who is using the plan. I ask, because amazingly enough, a lot of people
aren't aware that it even exists.

I've never understood this -- 50 minutes of "free LD".
That amount is virtually nothing.
Why not just use your cellphone? (Assuming LD is included,
as it is with most plans.) Especially with 7 p.m. N&W
for $5/mo for all the phones on the account. Along with
your AT minutes you can talk LD for thousands of minutes
per month "for free" (i.e., included at no additional cost).

Reception/clarity at my home, while talking on a cell phone,
isn't quite as good as on a landline. During important calls,
I prefer to use a landline and avoid those "Are you still
there?" queries.

It's enough for us. We make most of our long distance calls from the cell
phone. I could get a cheaper per-minute rate, but why? We don't use many
landline long-distance minutes.

We won't do this. Neither of us needs it and my wife doesn't want to get locked
into another contract right now.

A question-is this just outbound calls, or can people call you free?

You're serious, right?
Have you *ever* heard of a landline plan that charges for incoming calls?

Probably every 800-number plan does that.

OK, you got me! (I know... That's how 800 number subscribers
are billed.)
But something tells me that Stevie doesn't have an 800 number. <g>
