Samung N400 for Print PCS

I just bought this for my daughter off of Ebay. I can't figure out how
to work the text messaging. Is there any such thing on this phone
without going through the internet? Someone please help so my daughter
doesn't get terribly disappointed!

Basically it says:

Your SPH-n400 is compatible with Sprint's SMS service, but you will need to
go through your Sprint Shortmail options on the handset to do so. For
assistance we recommend contacting a Sprint representative for assistance.

and enter look for Sprint SPH-N400 then click on support at the top of the
