I did not have a contract for awhile, so I called up and asked what
    deals were available.
So I signed up for 1000 minutes, unlimited n/w starting at 7 for $45.

I signed up at the end of December.

Now I was looking at phones and did not see any I liked for a good
    price.

There are good phone deals with other companies. (Cingular, etc)

Is it too late to cancel my contract now?

I heard when you start a brand new cell phone account, you get 30 days
    to cancel.

But I didnt really start a new account, since I had one, I just signed
    a contract.

    Thanks

Call Customer Service for the final answer. Never heard of a 30 day
grace period for renewing an account, most likely the FCC mandated 14
day trial period doesn't even apply to renewals. Even if it did, you're
past the period of getting out without an early termination fee.

OK, good to know that in one year. THX

Re: Can I cancel my Account now? - Sprint is wacky

    brief recap.
    Was NOT under contract. (400 min, n/w at 8pm - $40)
    Then end of Dec. signed up for 1 year - (1000min, n/w at 7pm - 45)

Reconsidered....knew that if you bought a new contract you have 30
    days...so I called them today.

Turns out according to them, I signed a contract on Jan 9th (huh? it
was end of Dec when I called them)....and the contract was for the same
plan, but the only difference was n/w started at 7pm.

Thats BS...they did not put in my 1000 minutes.

Anyway, told the guy to remove my contract (he said I got 14 days,
lucky they didnt put it in when I called in Dec!!)
He said I was back to my original plan.

Called back 30 minutes later...the woman said according to the computer
I was under contract, but she saw the removal...so she put in a "note"
saying I am not under contract.

She said she is unable to make the computer say I am not under
contract, but her note is enough for me to be month to month and cancel
my service if I want to without penalty.

    Is she right?
If not, what are my options now?

    Thanks

If she says go, go with it!

You mentioned "Now I was looking at phones and did not see any I liked
for a good price....There are good phone deals with other companies.
(Cingular, etc)" As I mentioned in the past, the coolest phone and
gagzillions of free minutes come secondary to does the service work for you.

Yes, that is why I was thinking of switching to Cingular.

For some reason, the local phone stores (mom & pop type) always have
deals on TMobile and Cingular, never sprint. Weird.

They even have a deal with Cingular like, 1 year contract, free phone
(obviously not the best phone) and a $300 rebate after 6 months, if you
have a plan thats $34.99 minimum a month....I have no idea how they
    make money like that.

True...but if I go with Cingular, I have that 30 days to test out the
phone/plan before I have to keep it.

Radio Shack does Cingular with one year contracts on any phone (or at
least on the V557). Currently the Motorola V557 you can get for $25
after the in-store rebate, and that's a very good phone!

That deal is only on a two year contract. Starting today-Saturday that
phone is actually free on a 2 year deal. On a one year it is $50 I
    believe right now.

Just remember if you buy from mom and pop don't expect allot of support
from most of them if you need help with anything. Especially billing
problems, you will most likely get told to just call 611. Don't shop on
price shop on service and who will be around to service your needs when
you need it. Its worth paying little more to know you will get serviced
when you need it. You know the old adage, you get what you pay for!

They might have pulled the $25 price on the V557 by this time, but I did
get one from Radio Shack for only $25 four weeks ago and with one-year
    contract.

Suprised me when the clerk asked if I wanted a one year or two year
contract. I asked if I would get the V557 for the same price if I went
with the one year. She said I could as Radio Shack is allowed to do that.
