I have several pictures on my Sanyo 8100 that I use for caller ID, and
I'd like to keep them for my new phone (which will most likely be the
8300). Can someone please tell me what my options are for transferring them?
I have a few pics in the "Review/Share" folder, and many more (all the
ones for caller ID) in the "Picture Wallet" folder. I can't find a way
to upload them to a website, or to my computer.
I'm looking for ANY way to preserve them.
Thanks!

But does that involve a Vision plan?

I use bitpim (open source freeware: www.bitpim.org) and a
standard usb data cable (example:
http://www.wirelessemporium.com/stor...sp?itemid=7116)
for my 8300. This set up should also work for your purposes.

Thanks for the suggestion. But how would I get the pics from my 8100 to
my computer in the first place? I don't know if I can connect it to my PC.
Also, is it possible to do any of this once I've gotten my new phone and
my 8100 has been deactivated? Will I still have access to my pics and
phone book?

Huh? Did you sleep through David's post? <g>
Buy a cable:
http://www.wirelessemporium.com/stor...62&relatedId=0
and download the referenced software.

Oh! I was thinking that was just for the 8300 part of the transaction.
But I was also hoping to do this today, because I'm anxious to get my
new phone. Even if it means just having to email the pictures to myself
individually, but I can't even see a way to do that.

If it does, call Sprint and tell them you'd like to try Vision.
They'll usually give you a one or two month trial period.

Hmm, but the thing is, when I go to my caller ID pictures in "Picture
Wallet", the only choices I seem to have are to assign them as a
background, to the phonebook or incoming call. There isn't any kind of
option to upload them or send them anywhere. Maybe this has to be done
from the "Review/Share" folder, but I don't know how to get them back there.

No, check on the BitPim home page but I think the 8100 is a
covered phone (I'm almost certain). I mean, there's other software out
there and it's not expensive, but BitPim is free and the work of
dedicated volunteers.
As far as the cable is concerned, you may be able to get one
at your local Radio Shack. The Sprint stores here in NYC don't carry
them. So that would provide the cable immediately. To answer another
of your questions, it doesn't matter if your previous phone is
activated or not, as the photographs are stored on the handset itself.
The way it works is all pretty simple and self explanatory. If
you get the cable from the link above, right on that page there are
drivers for it. The BitPim site also has a link to drivers, as does
the Sanyo site. Those take a few seconds to download and a few more to
install. After you install the driver, you plug the cable into your
phone and the computer. If you're using Windows XP (for example) the
computer will recognize a device. Then you open BitPim and the
application will also recognize the device. From there on it's fairly
intuitive, but there's a FAQ on the BitPim site as well.
Even if you're not too skilled with this stuff, it's not very
difficult and you can always write back here w/questions. I learned
about BitPim here, as there are quite a few users reading this group.

A quick follow-up question: I noticed on the bitpim site that it says
"The filesystem on all of these phones, except for the MM-8300 is
supported." Will that affect what I want to do?
Also, will having pictures in two different places on my 8100 be a
factor? Some are in "Review/Share" and some are in "Picture Wallet".
Will the software be able to find both sets of these pictures?

No, it shouldn't.

I can't really answer that authoritatively, but I think that
you can "save to camera" any photographs you want to exchange, and
then you can be sure of the results. BitPim isn't as slick and
feature-rich as, for instance the Futuredial application that I think
Notan recommended. Photographs are saved to a space designated for
"wallpaper" as I recall. In other words, BitPim gets it to your
computer, but perhaps not in as organized a manner as you might like.
It moves the digits, though, which is all you need, I think.
Being able to access the file system is for doing work beyond
simply up- and downloading address book/calendar/picture/ring tones.
Handy, but not essential for most circumstances.
