Just picked up a couple of the new Sprint Katana phones for my wife and
    I. I was surprised to see there is no way to transfer photos via
bluetooth. You need to have Vision + the $5 per month photo service to
do that. I certainly wouldn't use this for a camera enough to justify
that expense, but might like to transfer a couple pictures to my
    laptop.

Is there any other way to transfer pictures (like with a data cable)?

Don't know if they've added this model yet, but try looking
    here: www.bitpim.org

There are commercial products as well, but if you're just
transferring photos, Bitpim is open-source freeware, and a data cable
    like this one:

    ...will cost you very little.

I posed a similar question recently about synching contacts between
Katana and Outlook. Can't find one. Did check out BitPim but as of
last week they're not supporting Katana. I suspect this is just
because it's a relatively new model. Someone will come out with a
sodftware update soon enough, but for now I think we're stuck with
manual contact entry and Vision photo transfer. BTW the Sprint
Wireless Backup service at least allows you to enter your contacts
manually on their website. Then you can have them downloaded
automatically to the phone. Works pretty well, not too expensive as a
stopgap, and it's easier than doing it on the phone itself, but it's
    still just a patch.
