So I was playing around with my new 6700 (well, used but new to me
anyway) and had taken the battery out for a few minutes while I
CAREFULLY removed the case in the back above the battery so I could
look around.
So, I put everything back together (it was only two screws) and put the
battery in - now the stupid thing won't power up!!!!! This sucks!!
I've tried all the button combos that I can think of, no dice, reset
the battery - nothing. The only sign of life i get out of the phone is
when the charger is plugged in I see a red light - which is wierd
because I used to see orange or green when the phone worked...
so - that's it - I'm stumped. Any advise would be greatly appreciated!!

Don't take your next replacement phone apart.

Did the thing get warm when you replaced the battery/cover? See if the
battery contacts are shorted. The charger evidently thinks that the
terminal voltage is too low. This corresponds with a very low resistance
across the battery connections. If the contacts were open, I'd think the
charger would say it was charged and turn green.
