Sprint EVDO speeds

What are you Sprint Mobile Broadband customers seeing in regards to download
speeds? I'm on Verizon BroadbandAccess and getting only around 280Kbps
these days...

Even if others report faster speeds doesn't mean you will see faster speeds.
In fact, you need to be asking people in the areas that your use Verizon now.
Further, as the number of users increase, the speed will likely decrease ...
so you may find yourself switching back ... or over to Cingular as they roll
out there implementation ...

In short, I wouldn't make your decision on short term transient data ... give
it time.

Very good advice.

However, to answer your question, if I run a DSLReports,
http://infospeed.verizon.net or similar speed test on a EV-DO sector
when there is no one else using it and using an external antenna to
guarantee lots (-60 dBm) of signal I get:

Hardware Downlink Uplink
Novatel S620 1.15 Mbpx 130 kbps
Treo700P 750 kbps 85 kbps

I got 704 download 102 upload when I tested my Sprint EVDO last night 8:00PM
Central US Time.

FWIW: I did an informal speed test of my own, back in the brief period
when I ad Verizon and Sprint EVDO at the same time (while considering a
transition back to Sprint):

The upshot is, I got significantly higher download speeds on Sprint.

This is actually counter to what I expected, considering that in the
market I tested this, Verizon has EVDO exclusively in the 1900MHz band
and voice is at 800MHz, while Sprint must do both voice and data in the
same 1900MHz bandwidth. I had thought that Verizon would be faster
because they have more bandwidth to dedicate to data. Evidently, this
is not the case.

Considering the higher speeds, and that PAM on Sprint is cheaper and the
TOS is far less restrictive, I switched back to Sprint. Of course,
dealing with customer service is hell, but thankfully after the initial
uphill battle of getting them to fix whatever they screwed up in my data
provisioning, the dealings with CS have been few and far between.

Price for PAM is the main reason I ported my number to Sprint.
I liked Verizon's voice network. It's always there where ever I went.
Did not experience any dropped call. Of course I don't use the
phone that much. I only had a phone for 1XRTT connection and
I wanted to upgrade to an EVDO phone. When I found out
that there is no longer such thing as tethering MOU with EVDO
and the PAM plan with Verizon is very high considering that
my need for tethering is very light, only when I am needed at
work to diagnose some system problems when I'm out
and about.

Well I looked into Sprint. I now have a $30 fair-and-flex,
$5 for 300 txt messages (I need this for auto-notification from
all my servers and networking devices at work),
and the $40 PAM.

With Verizon, the cheapest would be $40 voice, $10 for
500 txt messages, $60 (I think) for PAM.

You do the math.

They offer $5 for 250 messages. I have this option on all three of my phones.
Beyond that, I believe your numbers are correct.

I can honestly say that I can consistently get 900K down and 115K up. I have
clocked up to 2.2M down and 120K up. PAM is a great option! I have
definitely found that sprint is more "business" minded than other carriers.
I do agree that every metro area may be different, depending on saturation
of service, but I have used mine in atlanta, kansas city, pittsburgh, st
louis, and all over florida, without any degredation. I do also know that
sprint has more spectrum than any other carrier, which may lend to why they
have no trouble carrying voice and data in the same freq.

I just ran the speed test from DSL Reports on my Treo 700p, I got
248Kbits/second.
