I you are used to voice dialing with your phone and
planning to upgrade to Centro, don't do it! The Centro
    does not have voice dialing.

You know the useful thing about a PDA is that you'll fully expected to add
additional software to it? Fro the Treo & Centrol, VoiceDialIt will do what
you want -- although I realise that paying $25 for the feature might burn a
    bit.

    I mean "manufacturer".

Thanks for this info. I immediately went to phonesoop.com and
read the reviews of this phone. Very good. I may switch to
a non-palm pda/phone after my contract expires in two years.

The i760 is only offered by Verizon. My previous phone (before
the Centro) was Samsung A900. I liked it and it has acceptable
voice dialing capabilities out of the box, like other pedestrian
phones! I chose the Centro because I am used to Palm OS.
I have a Palm TX and the apps I bought for the TX work with
the Centro. But I am disappointed because it has no bluetooth
voice dialing! Where I live, it is illegal to hold the phone while
driving so we have to have handsfree capabilities with our phones.
It is even illegal to fumble on your phone (hold the phone and
press the keys to dial) while driving! You know what I
did, I bought a car that has a bluetooth hands free dialing
option and I'm all set! NOT!.

    [snip]

I knew that. I knew that because I did my research *before* buying
the phone. I usually do that with stuff, cuz I can afford to waste
neither my time nor my money.

Y'know, I've been on the Sprint System since they launched in
Detroit. Over 10 years, I believe it would be. Before that I was on
Ameritech. In that time I've yet to have had the "perfect phone,"
much-less the perfect phone+PDA. Each phone I've had has had its
share of disappointing mis-features. So did my good ol' Palm III.
(Yes, Palm III. I tend to hang on to stuff for a long, long time
    .)

Of the two... <thinks...> or has it been three? phones I've had with
native voice dialing, the only one that actually worked well was a
Kyocera I had. So my thinking is: If the Centro is good as a phone
and good as a PDA, I can add a voice dialing app for cheap if I find
    I really miss the feature.

I've read many, many more positive--glowing, even--reviews about the
Centro than negative ones. And most of the negative ones were lame,
IMO. It was also strongly recommended by a close friend. So I got
one. So far (only two days): I'm pleased. My thinking is it would
be a mistake to turn down a value this good for lack of that one
    feature.

Well, good for you. The voice dialing feature is very important where I
live because it is illegal to even hold your phone to dial when driving.

Where you live, it is still okay to fumble with your phone when you receive
a call or initiate a call while driving.

Enjoy your Centro. It's a good PDA, just like my Palm TX.
