I found my way through sprintpcs.com and filled out the form to change
the username on one of my (4) phones. This will be the third time that
I've done this. The first two were no problem. I typed in a new name,
waited over night and by morning my phone had been updated.

This third phone is giving me problems. I changed the name, but the
phone still has the old username and now it can't connect to the
internet. It still says "Connecting as <old name>". So I tried
changing my Vision password, wait over night, still doesn't work.

When I hit the "Web" button, I get "Error No. 106 System Error. Sign-in
failed. Please wait a moment and try again..."

I know that when you make changes to your username/password, Sprint has
to send something to your phone to update it with the new information.
Usually this is pretty quick (minutes). Sometimes it's longer that's
why I only make these changes before I go to bed. Something wrong in
this case though and my phone still is not getting updated.

Anybody know how I can force an update to fix this phone?

Re: How Do I Change My Vision Username?

I changed my password a few weeks ago and Sprint never sent the
provisioning push to my phone to change it. It's very risky to make
these kinds of changes too often I think as their system often
    malfunctions.

Not as often as you might think, considering there's over a million Vision
customers. But yeah, it happens. A phone call trying to get through right
as a push tries to happen, a drop of coverage at just the wrong moment, or
even a very short term timeout at the cell site, and it fails.

That's why the new phones like the 8100 and the A600 come with "Update
Profile" and "Update Data Profile" (respectively) on them. To have the
    phone request this push.

    There's a way, but a 106 error is something a bit more complex. I'd
recommend calling us. It's not terribly hard, but hard *enough* that it
should be done while speaking to us.

I didn't like my Vision username, so I changed mine on the website. It was
shortly afterwards I read on this group about all the horror stories
associated with it. Mine didn't change for hours...

So, I shut off the phone. Turned it back on.

Next time with the web, logged in like a charm. I know it's pretty hit and
miss, but if you haven't tried recycling the power, give it a shot before
    you call tech support.

That's good to know that the new phones have that feature. Come to think
of it I did receive a call just minutes after I changed my password on
the web site. Maybe that's what screwed it up? But how was I suppose to
    know that or prevent that?

That *is* a toughie. The phone is supposed to be on, and ready to receive
the data call, and there's no way to avoid a voice call (except, perhaps,
    call forwarding).

Actually, when you change your password and/or Username on the web site, it
tells you not to take or make calls. The odds of getting a voice and data
call at the same time are small, but it looks like you hit the Dubious
    Lottery.

Re: How Do I Change My Vision Username?

I don't remember the web site telling me not to place or receive calls
but I could have missed it I suppose. I wasn't planning on it but my
phone rang about a minute or two after I completed the change on the web
site so I guess that could have been what nulified it. It's too bad that
it can't try again if somthing like that happens.

Re: How Do I Change My Vision Username?

The problem I had was not with the phone, but with the order that changed my
username on the manage website. I can't access my mail from the new
username because the website keeps showing the mail from my old username.

My phone didn't receive the data push either. I had to ##data and manually
change my username then it worked.

    Hope this helps.
