My wife has a GSM phone with Cingular. Yesterday she upgraded to a new
phone. Walked in, bought the phone, walked out, popped her SIM card in.
Bingo, the new phone was fully activated AND all her phonebook entries
    were on the new phone.

The SIM design simply rules. Too bad it's only available on GSM.

Agreed. I hate it that CDMA carriers won't adopt the RUIM. (SIM card
    for CDMA)

I agree. It sucks that CDMA carriers won't adopt it.

I heard that for the last World Cup in Korea, they did manufactured
special CDMA phones that Europeans visitors could rent, pop in their
    GSM SIMs and talk away.

I agree a SIM format would be great.
