Does location service drain battery?

I am well aquanted with this problem. My wife's A500 will run for several
days when operating in the digital mode. The problem is that in the analog
mode you only have about 17 hours of battery. This is clearly stated in
the manual. When you are in an analog area or no signal area (where it is
trying to find an analog or digital signal) the battery goes down like a
brick!

I just keep an eye on the battery andcharge it every night as needed. If
you find a better solution, let me know.

Six answers.

1. Set it for PCS mode only, so it won't go into Analog
2. If you know you're in a dead zone (or very weak zone) where calls
can't be completed or would likely get dropped, turn off the phone
for the duration.
3. Next time get a phone with better battery life
4. Buy a 2nd or an extended life battery for the phone
5. Always stick it on a charger when in the car, if its Lithium battery
the frequent charging wont hurt it.
6. Switch carriers to one with better coverage (fewer dead zones)
where you live and work.

Unless, of course, it's a "Rapid" car charger, or a "Performance" car
charger, or any of the other countless 80-cent aftermarket pieces of
garbage that slam the battery with as much voltage as they can to get
it "fully charged" in a rapid manner. Batteries, Li-Ion or no, HATE
this.

Techs in my area (Florida) are pretty good, and haven't fried any of my
phones.

True that the 4900 should last a long time, but even though the
'location' feature isn't implemented, its implemented in the phone, and
the phone is constantly looking for that information from the network,
thereofre it will draw more juice from the battery, turning off the
location will imcrease the battery life, although with the Sanyo 4000
series, it may not be noticable.
