So if I want to connect my 5300 to my computer, what do I need? Cables seem
to be cheap on eBay, but what makes the software so special that ups the
price so much? Do I absolutely need the software for the phone? Or is it
only for downloading/uploading contacts? What about ringers/screen
    savers/etc.? Thanks.

You basically just need a cable for Internet connection. You can download
the connection manager software free from SprintPCS (business section) and
not have to buy the Futuredial Snapdialer. I previously used Snapdialer, but
have since been using Connection Manager, it works better and more seamless.
SprintPCS connection manager is a huge 80MB file and is available free @
http://tinyurl.com/rte . Be sure to download the version for USB cables ver
    01.0.040.
Ringers and screensavers you can get free from numerous sites. Uploading
contacts, you may have to pay for Snapsync, or some other third party
    software.

Phil, you don't even need the connection manager. You can download the
drivers from Sanyo's site to install your phone. You can set up a new dial
up connection on your laptop. Set it up to dial #777, and do not include
    your user name or password.

As to ringers/screensavers, you can send those to your phone from any of the
on line sites, i.e. 3gupload.com and others.

Re: What's needed for 5300 connectivity?

setting up a dial-up networking in windows using the futuredial cable is
never stable, i've experienced. like i said i used to do that and get all
kinds of hangups and freezes. since i moved to connection manager (which is
free), i've been experiencing what vision really should be. I am not saying
my way is best, but it's doing more wonders for me than snapdialer or
    windows DUN setup.

For yours truly, I use a cable bought at RS, and for the limited time I've
been connected with the laptop, I haven't experienced any problems.
