My one year contract comes up on August 28. Will I be able to cancel my
service on August 28, or should I wait until August 29 to cancel? I don't
want to get hit with a cancellation fee, but I do not want to have service
with Sprint any longer than I have to. I'm just getting too many dropped
calls.

You need to call at least a few days before your billing cycle ends. If you
call on the day it restarts you will have to finish another month as they
say they can't pro rate.

Your contract does not automatically renew...when August 29th
hits....it just starts a month to month type deal with Sprint PCS.
Same plan and everything but no agreement. But you should tell them
ASAP...like today....that you do not want Sprint PCS anymore. On the
last day of your cycle...will be your last day with Sprint....Good Bye!

Re: Canceling Service
If I were you, I'd get the best retention deal I could get based on your
usage.
Then I'd put the account on vacation. Pay the standby fee. If you don't
need it after a year, let it go. If you do, you should have a good plan.

Re: Canceling Service
Why would you wait this long?
If you are having that poor of a service, they will cancel your contract
free of charge.
All you have to do is call and have documented 5 complaints about service in
general on your account.

Re: Canceling Service
Ed,
You know your dropped calls may be due to a thousand different
things--maybe so are sprint's fault, others may not be--Could be your
locations--this may be hard to fix--could be you have either a bad or
out of date handset--easier to fix--in either case you are in the cat
birds so seat so to speak--
If you are going to keep some form of cell service, you are in a
position to get all sorts of extras, minutes, credits etc--if you go to
another carrier--they are going to point to the current rate list--I was
out of contract till I called to get 8pm nights, and also they gave me
more minutes all no extra charge--I use both sprint and verizon and both
loose calls occasionally--but hey its a cell phone--but my only regret
at what I did is that I didn't ask for more--why don't you see what kind
of deal you can get and let us know.
My point is, at your position, sprint, can do more for you (money wise)
than any other carrier.. let us know

Re: Canceling Service
Since he mentioned that his main issue is dropped calls, what possible good
would having a retention plan, and the same annoying drops, do for the OP?
If the issue were pricing or the number of minutes, sure, it makes sense,
but to lobby for a cheaper price on a service he doesn't even want it silly.

Re: Canceling Service
I don't play the retention game. I have a Sanyo 4900. I've had the phone
twice looked into by Sprint.. I can understand losing a signal in a weak
area, but in a five bar area (Wilmington DE) to drop a signal is
inexcusable. I live in Pennsville NJ, cellular hell, even Verizon has
problem marinating a signal. Believe it or not, I'm trying T-Mobile right
now, and although the coverage is not extensive as Sprint, it is the only
other carrier besides Sprint where I can call out from my home and work with
no problems, and I have not dropped a call with T-Mobile.

Re: Canceling Service
I'm outside 2 miles from Wilmington Delaware with four to five bars and drop
a signal while at the local park. It's just not worth it to me to keep
dropping calls in a strong signal area.
