Greetings. I finally located a Sprint store in Reston VA that had two of
these units in stock. I upgraded from a Samsung i-330 because I wanted a
more compact device. Although I was completely please with the i-330, the
i-500 is clearly superior. The absence of a speaker phone and exterior
caller id display make no difference to me but should be considered if you
require these features. With the faster processor the performance of the
i-500 is noticably faster as it moves from application to application as
compared to the i-330. The display is sharper and the sensitity to the
stylis is perfect. Sound volume and ringer are great. Some have complained
that the vibration ringer is weak - I find it to be just fine. The device
is solid and well built and does not feel fragile. The reception is as good
as any other Sprint device I have had in the past. I use the PDA features
constantly as I did with my i-330 with regular daily sync-ing with outlook
on my laptop via the IR port. Although there are very few accessories
available at this time specifically for this device, I am sure that will
change. My overall review of this PDA/phone combo is five stars. This is
clearly the most advanced personal communication and information management
tool I have ever owned with solid reliable performance. I highly recommend
it.

Let us know in a few days how the battery life is.
I'm sure that will be one of the big issues since Samsung is notorious
for exaggerating their battery life specs.
Thanks for the review!

With the Samsung I series, Sprint compensates for short battery life
by providing 2 batteries with every phone they sold. Using the phone as
a PDA with backlight on can make for a charge life of 3 or 4 hours.
using it only as a phone, the battery charge life is not that different
from other large screen phones.
I see that SprintPCS is now offering a $50 discount on the I500 if one
also signs up for a 2 year Advantage Agreement. I presume the $50 is
more to get you on an Advantage Agreement than to move I500s as the I500
is listed as sold out. For me, the absence of a Speaker phone on the
I500 would be a deal breaker.

Re: Samsung sph-i500
Question. What sizes in Mah are the two batteries that are in the I500 box?
(slim and standard). What is the size of the extended in Mah?
For that matter, what was the size of the extended in Mah for the I330?

Interesting, Phillipe (and I mean that). Just curious, though, are you
interested in a PDA phone?
I suppose the assumption was that such device as the I500 was unlikely to be
used that way. Although, if the Palm functions are accessible during a
call, I would personally assume the opposite.
