Analog Roaming minutes

I called and talked to Sprint's retention department last week and was
trying to see about getting some sort of deal. I received a letter in the
mail trying to get me to renew my contract in exchange for more anytime
minutes and unlimited n/w.... still at 8pm, which I have now anyways. I've
been out of a contract for at least a year and a half now.

I was actually considering switching to Vzw come November due to the fact
that Sprint's towers go down occasionally on what seems to be days on end.
While I'll admit, it's not often, but when they do go down, I dislike being
unable to use my phone from home. After talking to customer service in the
past, they have refused to credit my account in any way to allow me to make
analog roaming calls, though they did credit the 3 or 4 days of unavailable
service.

When I called and spoke to retention about my issues they offered me 50
local analog minutes free a month only and said I would be responsible for
long distance still. I'm not looking for a "retention" plan, but what is
the most I can get Sprint to do for me.... in regards to analog minutes.

I would call back and ask to be put on the Free and Clear America (FCA) plan
as part of your retention package. Otherwise, I would seriously consider
switching to Verizon, as you won't be responsible for roaming or long
distance (which is 25 cents / minute on Sprint) if you are in an area where
America's Choice (assuming that would be your plan) is supposed to cover.

My contract isn't up until March, but I am considering the same thing for
myself come contract end. In my area, Verizon covers two key areas natively
that Sprint doesn't, but claims they do (funny, since Sprint has far more
native coverage in Minnesota than Verizon, but not in the two areas I
frequent most other than home). Also, I have found that in many buildings
just north of my home (restaurants, movie theater, grocery store, etc), I
roam onto Verizon digital because of the lack of quality signal from Sprint.
FCA would eliminate any issues with that. For now, I try really hard not to
make calls in these areas, but it bugs me to even have to worry about it,
but it is not worth an additional $10/month for me (that difference may as
well put me on a Verizon plan).

This may sound stupid, but I my dad has tried it and it works.. He does
not get very good service inside his apt.. so i told him to do this and
it seemed to help a lot..

Go to Ratshack (radioshack) and get one of those external celluar car
attennas that have the cable that conencts to the back of the phone
behind the little rubber piece. Stick the attenna outside on the window
seal of your house, and run the cable under the window into the house.
then connect it to your phone. If ya want by extentions for the cable to
walk around a little inside the house... It sounds funny but it worked
for my dad. lol

What they are not telling you is that 50 minute per month bundle is for
only 6 months. After that you'll get charged $10-15 dollars for it per
month until you call and take it off. What you need is a retention free
and clear america plan with unlimited after 8pm. That would be a deal
worth considering staying for.

Does Sprint have a retention free and clear american plan with unlimited
after 8pm? Is that something I could ask for next time I try calling? That
would be much more ideal then just the extra 50 minutes. From what I
remember, the cs rep said those analog minutes would be included for the
life of the plan.

I dont know if they offer anything like that or not, you'll have to call

Nope. F&CA is only available with 9PM N&W hours. The 8PM option isn't=20
an add-on, either, so we can't "tweak" it in.

Thanks for the feedback, that is how I understood the F&CA plans (being at
9pm only). So... instead of switching to one of those and losing my 8pm off
peak, are there any other options I could ask for instead of just the 50
local analog minutes? Is there any way to "tweak" in more then just 50
and/or have long distance included? If a tower goes down for 3 days, 50
minutes really isn't all that much when you need to use your phone. Any
idea what my options would be or what I could reasonably ask for?

I've only spoken with retention once and I'd rather know what to expect and
ask for the next time I am ready to call.

Jim, first off, I've never heard of a 50 analog roaming minutes
options. This is not to say that SPCS is offer such a specific deal,
but I believe that option that you are referring to is the $10/mo. 50
min. roaming option, which includes not only analog, but digital
roaming in the 50 states.

Sounds like they are just providing this option at no additional
charge.

Now, here's a question. How much do you actually use your phone
between 8 & 9 PM? For that matter, what plan are you on now, and do
you exceed your monthly allotment of minutes now?

critical to your minutes? If it is, then by all means keep it. =20
unfortunately, the roaming "bucket" you were offered is the only option,=20
and it won't include long distance.

How many minutes have you been charged for roaming/LD in any given=20
month? Is it pretty regular? I mean, I know you say it's not *common*,=20
but you appear to be saying it's frequent enough to be an ongoing=20
concern? How ongoing is it?

IMHO, N&W should be 1900 to 0700 or maybe 2000 to 0800. If Sprint
PCS would do either, preferably for me the first, they might have a big
boost in new customers.

I have Free & Clear America with 7PM off-peak (Additional $7 for the 7PM
option), I have never been charged for roaming (analog/digital) or long
distance. It works great!

I *think* the intent behind the selected markets that got the 7PM offer=20
was to figure out if that's true. Obviously, that tested it as an=20
extra-charge addon. I don't know how it went, though, or how it's=20
going.
