The Sprint reps at Costco say that a new Sprint PCS phone from Costco
comes with a lifetime warranty. But neither Sprint nor Costco will put
anything in writing. Is someone preying upon my naivety?

Yep. I think Costco only allows a 30 day warrantee stock and normally there
is only a 14-day warrantee with Sprint PCS. Costco will take the phone back
for any reason at all .... "Satisfaction Guarrenteed". Costco customers are
a bit different than run-of-the-mill Target and Walmart style customers, so
such a guarrentee is probably not going to bankrupt them.

Here in TX, we see quite a difference in the Target and Wal Mart shoppers.

I don't know if this is what you meant or not Thomas, but all new Sprint
PCS phones come with a 1 yr manufacturer warranty. As long as the
warranty isn't voided by physical damage or neglect, its covered for 1
yr from purchase date.

Costco is counting on your being too embarressed to bring in a 2 year
old phone for refind when it falls apart, but if you do, and have your
receipt, they'll refund you.

What I meant was that Costco will only allow you to return it for 30 days,
after that, you must deal with the manufacturer or Sprint.

Costco offers a lifetime guarantee on anything in their store, except
computers. Just ask the membership desk for a copy of their
satisfaction guarantee stuff. You will also get the one year warranty
fron sprint and the 14 days until contract start still apply. All
costco will do is refund your money if there is a problem with a phone.
There are no refurbs, phone book transfers ... If you are a costco
member when they refund your money you can take the money and put it
towards a new phone. This will probably change soon as people figure
out that if they break the phone they can get a new one.

Well taken. Thanks. Nonetheless, Sprint should clarify the policy so as
to leave no doubt about it for prospective customers.
Retentiveness/confusion/lack of candor only gives me incentive to go to
Cingular or Verizon. So please forward this note to anyone at Sprint PCS
who can swing the bat. Calling the Sprint 800 number is useless, since
the call center never passes the customer up to the corporate level, and
the "average" call center operative--at least the ones whom I
reached--are either ignorant, powerless, or unwilling to make a definite
statement.
Costco/Sprint leave similar confusion about the "extra" battery that
comes, only to Costo customers, with the Samsung A620 phone--you send in
a coupon or proof or purchase, and presumably get the extra battery 3-4
weeks later. The Sprint offer--somewhere on a Sprint computer, I have
confirmed--is that "new and existing customers" qualify for a free
second battery upon activation of the phone. Any new phone has to be
activated, or it would be useless. But clarification is needed as to
whether a current customer (who keeps the same Sprint account) qualifies
for this offer. The official Sprint policy seems to say so, but the
Sprint PCS manager of my Sprint representative at Costco, said the
opposite.
Final note: the Samsung A620 seems to be the current top-of-the line
phone from Sprint, but the camera is only about a half megapixel. In
Japan phone-cameras go up to 2 megapixels. When are Sprint phone cameras
going well beyond the puny half megapixel?

Sprint does not recognize Costco's return policy, it is like Radio
Shack's. You return it to the store and they take the loss, not Sprint.
In regards to the extra Battery, I actually am a rep at costco so I know
these answers rather well.
1. Nothing needs to be sent in.
-I would make sure the ESN on the phone is the same on the box
though, since this is how they know who to send it to.
2. It is for BOTH existing and new customers. If you look at the
handout in the store it won't say anything about new customers only.
And finally about the phones in japan. I wouldn't compare to much to
them, they are several years ahead of us, we are cutting the gap, but
America isn't as interested as a whole as Japan is. Those phones cost a
lot more than our current camera phones do, and Americans are cheap.
