I made the mistake of signing up for a 2 year contract with Sprint about 3
months ago. Well I have a family plan and I bought 5 phones, car chargers
and all the other crap to go with it. I have horrible coverage here in
Cleveland, Ohio and in the suburbs! Does anyone have any good ideas on how
someone could get out of their contract and possibly be partially reimbursed
for the phones and chargers???
From someone who wishes they stayed with Alltel,
Doug

Re: Wanna Leave Sprint
Sprint won't give you a dime for the phones and chargers. Sell them on Ebay,
pay the cancellation fee, and be done with it.
Why would you invest in all of that equipment before really finding out how
Sprint was going to work for you?
Guess I'm just getting tired of all of the recent Sprint bashing. Never had
a single problem with Sprint or Vision in these parts.

Re: Wanna Leave Sprint
class action lawsuit maybe?
As bad as Sprint service is they have to either feel charitable towards
you to release your contract or feel they're in serious breach of
contract. Since they attempt to basically commit to nothing in the
contract, that's pretty hard.
Sorry
PS I'm canceling Sprint at the end of the month, yes they are
consistantly rated as the suckiest!

Depends on how bad things are. A few dead spots or dropped calls does
not warrant getting you out of contract as you has a 14 day trial
period.
If your service has deteriorated and is totally unuseable, then call
Sprint Executive Services at 817-215-3070 and make your case.

Re: Wanna Leave Sprint
Do what we did, send them back to Sprint, at Sprint's expense. Call
UPS at 1.800.PICK.UPS and ask for a 2day air pickup. Throw the N400s
or whatever in the 2day air padded pack and address it as so:
UPS ACCT NO: E92W92
Returns
Sprint PCS C/O WWL
2210 Outer Loop Rd BLDG 2 Door 141
Louisville, KY 40219
When they receive your phones, they will type the ESNs into the
computer and credit your account $149.99 plus tax, and now with
service credits we have 3 Sanyo 8100s that cost us about $50 each.
To verify that this is the legitamite returns address, call
1.888.211.4PCS or *2 on your pcs phone.

Re: Wanna Leave Sprint
i have a friend who was able to get out of a contract simply by calling and
complaining about horrible service...seems if you call them enough times,
they'll eventually do as you wish....i know this to be true because i am witness
to how he did it....just keep calling and complaining....but i do have to tell
you, you may be able to get out of the service, but you are pretty much stuck
with the equipment

Re: Wanna Leave Sprint
If what these posts say is true than Sprint is a very nice company to
deal with. Get out a contract and not be charged 1.50 per line? Wow!
I hope the outfit you go to next treats you half this nice.

I'm curious what part of Cleveland Doug was having problems with.
If I may ask, Doug? (We used to use Sprint out in Lake County and didn't
have problems.)

I would assume this is true if he was within the 14-day trial period...
he didn't say that he was...

You didn't know that you had bad coverage in such a large area during the
first two week trial period? You had your chance to cancel and you didn't.
Now you must play the contract game of pay your way out of it. That is how
it appears to me, and I have little doubt that is how it would appear to
Sprint (or any provider you were to choose).

He said that he wasn't, as it has been more than three months!

Re: Wanna Leave Sprint
Doug T,
Are you serious?? Alltel doesn't even come close to the rest of the
providers. They are minor league players. Not sure why you didn't
check the service out prior to buying it as you stated you were an
Alltel customer. You have to have known about mobiles not working in
all areas. Especially with a provider that is limited like Alltel.
I have been in Cleveland and my phone has worked with no problems but
that doesn't mean your's will. First you are going to have to tell us
what coverage problems you are having exactly. If you have dropped
calls in a specific area, don't make calls until after you've passed
that point. If it is more than one location, do a search on issues in
your area. I haven't seen complaints about your location in a long
time. Possibly you are complaining about coverage when you go inside
certain locations. Mobile phones are great but if you are in a
building, USE the landline.
If you really don't want to stay with SPCS, pay the termination fee,
put your equipment up on ebay and see what you get. When you go with
the next provider you pick, before you sign on the dotted line, ask
about termination fees, roaming charges, Home or local charges. FIMF,
equipment prices and so forth.
Yes, I know that Verizon has the PTT feature now, wait a few months,
Sprint will have it, Cingular will have it and so forth.

Alltel bought GTE Wireless's network during the big merger that created
Verizon Wireless. Recall that Verizon borg'd GTE Wireless *and* AirTouch
Cellular. Both companies had a big customer base in Cleveland, and Verizon
wasn't allowed to keep both.
Alltel already was the landline telco in many of the rural areas surrounding
Cleveland, so they were a natural to buy GTE Wireless's Cleveland network.
Verizon Wireless in Cleveland is the network that used to be the AirTouch
network run by Newpar Cellular.
So anyhow, when Alltel came into Cleveland, they got a nice, solid, extensive
network. I was a GTE/Alltel customer from 1993 through 2001, so I speak from
experience. Don't know how they've done since then.
Plus, "mobiles not working in all areas?" Alltel doesn't have tons of native
coverage, but they have roaming agreements... an Alltel phone should work in
most of the country and across all of the major cities.

And which part of the city.
