The key pad on my 4900 has gone defective. Does anyone know what the
warranty period is on these phones, and is there a repair location in
    the NY/NJ/CT area?

One year. I don't remember when these were first introduced, so if
your phone is less than one year old, and the damage wasn't caused by
physical abuse, i.e.: dropping it, getting it wet, or whatever, SPCS
should be to replace your phone. You may not get another 4900, as I
    understand it's been discontinued ...

Yes, they have been discontinued but there are still a few new ones
floating around if you can find them. It's such a great phone that
I'd gladly pay if it came to that.

    Any idea about repairs?

Doubtful, unless you sent it to Sanyo. You might want to check their
site to see if they will do it, and if they can, how long it will take
    for the turnaround.

SPCS doesn't generally repair phones. You might have to ask Sanyo about an=
    =20
    authorized repair facility.

If it would work at all I would make a quick call the the handset
insurgence replacement folks..And I have read recent posts that 4900's
are on sale at some sprint stores 2 for $80 with new contract. probably
just getting rid of inventory for the new 7200's etc, which is what I am
waiting on--you can also find them on ebay, but they are still a little
    high priced-

Voice Command can be dialed with * and [TALK]. Then you can just say the=

    number you're trying to dial.

I'm just kidding... mostly. It really *does* work in a pinch, and it's fre=

Strictly FYI, I've got a 4900 I'd part with if you want it.

The warranty period is one year, but even under warranty, Sprint
has secret rules about whats covered and what isnt and they tend
to cry "abuse" more than you might expect.

Luckily if you check the SprintPCS website under promotions, they
are now offering a Great deal on 4900s.

Secret rules? What kind of cocaine you using, man? Just about every issue=

You sir are a proven LIAR and here is another instance. It was
established on Saturday that Sprint has internal lists of phones with
"known issues" where they will or won't grant warranty repairs. One
such issue was broken screens. It was discussed in the Sanyo 8100
    broken screen thread.

Sorry you feel the need to insult a legitimate post with your desire
    to cover up.

But now we know the reason for your paranoia. Since you seem to be
expert on the effects of cocaine, perhaps it is because you've
experienced them first hand as a user.

Secret rules? I'd call it more like common sence. Don't get the phone
wet, don't bang it around etc..

Those two are 99% of the causes of voided warranties, its no secret. I
see a wet water marker, that means the phone got wet enough for water
to get to the sticker, and a little splash, out for a few minutes in
the light rain, and humidity do not cause it to turn red.

I have not seen a screen yet that just cracks or bleeds on its own.
Every circumstance its caused by pressure being added to the flip, it
being dropped, or extreme hot / cold temperatures (taking it out of a
hot car then putting it right by the AC vent in your home / office).
Sometimes the testing department has realized that the amount of
pressure needed is less than what they consider acceptable, and then
work with the manufacturer to see if they can get a resolution for it,
and if it should be covered under warranty.

Most phone do have known warranty issues, does that mean that SprintPCS
should recall ALL phones beause <1% of them might have a defective unit
(and yes, no "known issue" is 100%, I still see first run 1010s that
    are still running fine).

I'm probably interested if the phone is in good working condition.

Drop me a note at my Hotmail address and we'll figure out how to get
    the deal done.

Show me one time a non-safety recall was ever announced as you say it=20
should have been. In fact, non of these issues are recalls. We have an=20
internal department that simply decides whether a certain fault merits=20
warranty replacement. If the fault never occurs, so be it. Let the=20
    customer be happy.
