Before Verizon upgraded voice mail systems a few weeks ago, I would
often dial my own voice mail to leave myself reminder messages. (The
meager 30 seconds for voice memos on my Nokia 6015i just doesn't cut
it.) Now, though, whether I'm dialing *86 or my own phone number from
the cell phone, it takes me straight to the menu ("Please enter your
password...")
Does anyone know how I can get it to drop back to regular voice mail
when calling from the phone, so I can leave myself messages on-the-go?
Here's what I've tried:
-The Verizon back-door number for landlines (takes me straight to the
menu).
-"*" from the main menu, to exit (disconnects).
-Listening through the options on the menu for a setting
Many thanks for any help you can offer!

It's a pain and it would cost a bit each call, but you
could get a prepaid calling card.
On most phones yu can program in the card's number, then
a "wait for button push", then the card id and the final
phone number.

Dial your own number from a landline, perhaps? That should always work.

I haven't tested it, but try hitting "*" when it asks for your password,
you might be able to enter your phone number and then leave a message.
Alternatively, login then hit "00"
Both are long shots, but they work on some voicemail systems.

Re: Leaving self voice mail from Verizon phone?
Perhaps I have a different VM system...but after getting the same
"please enter your password" message, and entering password, there's
the option to, " listen press 1",or "send press 2"
Then I enter my cell number and can then "Send" myself a VM message.
Just requires a little longer automated message string, to leave
messages to one's voice mailbox.
Do the new VM versions lack the abilty for option #2, to "send"?

I knew I had to be overlooking something obvious - I do have that
option.

No kidding. It wound up being "*86p[password]#p2w#[my number]pp#". I
don't think I'd bother if I couldn't automate it. But since I can, I
don't have to flip through my phone's menus anymore; I can put it on
speed dial, or even assign a voice shortcut. Should be a lot safer
while driving.
Thanks to everyone for the advice!

How about *67[your munber] maybe the block caller id will fool voice mail.
