yeah, if you save contacts to SIM card, like I do, you can swap the card
into another Cingular phone, and you are good to go

Mike>>Have you called/checked with your nearest Cingular retailer?? If
they can't, I believe you are screwed. My first choice is to alway use
my SIMS card for my contacts. On my last phone, I had them on both. But
that seemed too redundant, since going through my list, I'd see two of
everything. But I prefer the SIMS, for the very reason of phone failure,
or damage, like when I dropped my very first one, an Ericcson in ocean
    water at the beach>>>OUCH>LOL.

    Mike:

Take it to a Cingular store. They may be able to copy all the
contacts by following the "Menu Tree" to save to the SIM. If that
doesn't work, there is the possibility of using a cable to backup your
contacts to a computer, then copying to the SIM. You shouldn't need a
new SIM if only the screen has failed.

who said you need a NEW card?

put old card, WITH CONTACTS in it, in new phone, and away you go

betrtimes>You had the most common sense approach yet. Stick the original
SIMS card in a new phone. Doesn't have to be an expensive phone. But as
I just recalled, the poster said that the contacts were not on the SIMS,
but in the phone. Something I pointed out that I would never have done,
for the very reason of what happened. No the poster is screwed, not
being able to read the contacts. Nor can the poster take your very good
    advice.
