On a pay-as-you-go T-Mobile account, while talking with a CS rep recently, I
discovered that the IMEI for my phone isn't registered with T-M. The rep
asked me to remove the battery (after we finished our call) and write down
the number and call them back.

Well my phone is working just fine, thank you very much, without my IMEI
being registered.

What's the purpose / value of registering an IMEI?
