Re: Unlocked iPhone - Pros & Cons
600 bucks is a rip off. Your best bet is either (a)buy it there yourself (say you live in Canada) or (b) ask someone over there to send it to you and mark it as a gift and you'll save 200$

Re: Unlocked iPhone - Pros & Cons
So if I unlock my iPhone I can testore it to the way it was before?
And will I be able to get service from any network I want? (using what SIM, original or the one that comes with the iPhone?)
And will I be able to work with the SDK on an unlocked phone?
Thanks.

DO NOT USE ZIPPHONE that is exactly what cause some know updating issues in the unlock i phone update as normal to the second most recent firmware 2.0.2 and use winpwn 2.5 it unlocks and jailbreaks at the same time then you can upgrade to 2.1 no problem your phone stays unlocked then if you still want it jailbroken use quickpwn 2.1 and boom welcome to the most up to date F/W and its Jailbroke

Re: Unlocked iPhone - Pros & Cons
Guess I'm lucky here living in Hong Kong - all phones have always been sold unlocked in Hong Kong (& I believe some other countries?) where it's never been legal for anyone to 'lock' them to a particular phone company due to our free trade rules ("freest economy in the world" ...blah blah.. every year for ages).
Originally had so sign up with "Three" for a 24 month contract to get one, but now available from the Hong Kong Apple Store directly & suitable to use with any SIM from any provider anywhere.

Re: Unlocked iPhone - Pros & Cons
Just moved back to the states from Germany... Went through about 2 days worth of trying to set up an AT&T account for my IPhone originally purchased in Germany through TMobile. Not all of my features worked with the unlocked phone, and getting the phone unlocked took an act of god. Ended up selling the phone from Germany to my brother and getting one stateside.
