Hey everyone. Thanks for welcoming me to the forums. I am an iPhone guy and still loving it. I have owned every generation to date (can’t wait for iPhone 4.0!). I just splurged on a new laser projector and wanted to share my review. There were two options to choose from (ya, only 2 right now), the Microvision ShowWx (Microvision ShowWX Laser Pico Projector - At A Glance - Reviews by PC Magazine) and the Aaxa L1 (AAXA L1 SVGA Laser Pico Projector). Microvision has a lot of weight behind it because it is a much bigger company which made them my initial choice. But after reading a lot of mediocre reviews on the ShowWx I went with the L1 instead. The L1 also has twice the lumens of the ShowWx so it was a clear favorite despite my not knowing much about the company. The reviews were also better on the L1 (I included reviews on both of them above).

This is a 50 inch projection with the L1 from a slideshow on my iPhone.

My primary concern was being able to use it with my iPhone. I wasn’t sure if the laser projectors were compatible yet but I was assured it wouldn’t be a problem. Since I was a little confused at first I want to share the setup. Basically the L1 has a D-sub Mini input on it. It comes with a D-sub Mini to Composite (RCA) adapter. From there you need an iPhone adapter. The adapters are retrofit with special chips from Apple that make them work so be careful if you are going to try and buy a knock-off online. The one I got was $20. The adapter will let you plug into the iPhone on one side and an A/V cable on the other (I know, might be kind of confusing, I took a picture to try and make it easier).

The actual projector itself has been so fun to play with. I downloaded a bunch of free TV shows from iTunes (there are a LOT of free shows in case you didn’t know) and it keeps me entertained anywhere I go. If you need to do powerpoint presentations all you do is save them on your phone or on the projector as JPG files and then run the files as a slideshow. If you guys have any questions or need help setting one up just let me know and I’d be glad to try and help. Cheers!

Hey everyone. Just got word that Aaxa finally made an iPhone adapter officially for the L1. I just ordered mine and should get it soon. Looks much easier than the setup I had above. Definitely worth the $25 to keep it simple. Here's the info on it: AAXA Technologies - AAXA Announces the P1 iPod / iPhone / iTouch Cable

And a pic of it off their site...

The laser projection concept looks very interesting. I guess we'll have to wait until the iPhone 7 until one of these laser projectors to get small enough to be put into the phone itself (like digital cameras/camcorders are now pretty much in all phones). The infinite focus sounds like it would come in very handy if the projector or projection surface/screen are constantly moving. On the other hand, AAXA's website shows a couple other LED-based projectors like the P2 and M1+ that are cheaper AND brighter. I'll need to find a way to get a laser unit to test myself and see if the trade-offs make sense for what I need (small group presentations).

Are you going to get a laser or LED unit?
