The free open source media player app VLC has been removed from the iOS AppStore by Apple on VLC’s request. VLC apparently sued Apple to have it removed from the store, and Apple instead of facing court actions simply agreed to their request and took it down. According to Rémi Denis-Courmont, the lead developer of VLC, the DRM in the AppStore violated the GNU public license, hence requesting the take down. The fact that this free app was removed from the AppStore is very disappointing, especially for the millions of users using it.
