I have been looking for a phone to use in a bad reception area in southern West Virginia where my wife's mother lives. Only AT&T services the area. I went to an AT&T store here in Crossville, Tn and asked for a phone that has the best reception in a bad signal area. She pointed out a military grade phone with a stubby antenna. I think it was a Motorola Tundra, but I'm not sure. Does this phone have the best reception? It's $ 265 because I want to use it on a pay as you go plan. Any ideas?

Re: Best phone for weak signal areas
The Motorola Tundra has the best reception of any phone I have found. I also live in an area only served by At&t and get spotty service and reception is my highest priority when choosing a phone. The Tundra isn't available through At&t at this point in my area (are they going away? I'm not sure.) But, I have bought used ones online for both my son and I. I would be interested if anyone is finding other phones with as good or better reception. I can say that I have directly compared it to Nokia's 6085 and 6350 and an LG Slide. I have also added a Z-Boost dual band signal booster at home. With the Tundra and the booster I can use my cell as my primary phone at home.

I was just in the at&t store here in Crossville, Tn . They did not have the Tundra in stock, but she found 62 at other stores. You might be able to order one over the phone from here. They're shipping one to the store here for me Tuesday or Wednesday.

Re: Best phone for weak signal areas
Thanks DaveO, I'll pass the info on to a friend of mine who is looking for a new Tundra. She lives off grid and sometimes has service and sometimes not at her house. She drove better than 40 miles last weekend to get one, only to be told to go online. They don't show as available online however either. I'm thrilled with my used ones. No problems yet, and it was a $100 less! Hope the new Tundra works out well for you, I have to say at this point, its the best phone I have had!

I was in a Radio Shack yesterday and they had something that you plug you regular phone into and your cell phone uses the land line to make a call. I think it was $80. I guess you don't get charged on your land line.
