I want to get myself an iPhone on my Bell contract. I'm midway through a 3-year contract and have no credits towards a new handset, so obviously I'll have to pay full price if I want an iPhone. Anybody know how much dough I'll have to cough up for that? Given my experiences so far with Bell, I'm fully expecting that they're going to want to give it to me up the a**.

same here. I'm also part of a contract with bell but want to go to the iPhone. I want to know if they'll charge me the price they would if I was just buying the phone outright with not contract? Any help would be great

on a 3 years contract, Bell is open for a renewal starting at the half of the contract so about 1 year and a half before the end. Try calling them and asking for it, you would then have your iphone for the 3years contract price and you contract would then be of 4 years and a half.

Also, check out the blackberry bold 9700 before doing your choice, personally I find it way better than the IPhone.

Until you have upgrade credits for a new phone you would need to pay full price for the phone which starts at $599-799 ... you can check Kijiji or eBay because any iPhone can be used on any network that takes SIM cards, just needs to be unlocked which is super easy.

My Profile says AT&T only because there are no Canadian providers to choose from. I am really on Bell Mobility.
Save your money. My wife and I got a 3GS' on Bell Mobility in January and have had nothing but trouble with them ever since. The battery life is awful--barely lasts a day. If you use the push-email (Exchange), it can drain the battery in less then 4 hours.
And even worse, the phone drops service randomly at least a few times a day. Bell has acknowledged the problem and says Apple is working on a fix but won't give any estimates on when it will be fixed. I don't know if this problem is specific to the iPhone on Bell or just a Bell problem.
Yes, the iPhone has all kinds of fun apps, but you can't use them if you don't want to drain the battery, so what's the point? I spend my day looking for power sources--I might as well use a desktop computer.
I am regretting my move from my Blackberry Curve on Rogers everyday.

I beg to differ. My iPhone easily lasts a day. If you jail break there was a problem with battery life relating to SBtools and OpenSSH not being installed. After installing and having OpenSSH turned off in SBTools my battery life is fine.
I had service problems when it first came out but not anymore. Glad I chose an iPhone.

If you more into texting and typing on the phone I would go blackberry but for entertainment purposes iPhone can't be beat. Also once you install haptic (if you jailbreak) you can make the keys vibrate on the iPhone.

Also a trick if you want to get credit towards a new phone and you still have time left on your contract is to get another "ghost" line as a share plan to get a new customer hardware credit. Then do an ESN swap to the sim card. This will cost you $20 extra a month for the remainder of your current contract but it might be better than paying the full price depending on how much time you have left and you will probably get some extra minutes on your plan (from the share). You'll have to find a rep who knows what he is doing.

    Re: iPhone on Bell Mobility

In typical journalist fashion, the Globe and mail has opted to use the term "GSM" when in reality, Telus and Bell are getting HSPA, which is the successor to GSM. Therefore, the GSM phones will not work on Telus and Bell, but HSPA ones with the right frequency will work on all three, according to how they are locked and what SIM card they have. Since Apple dictates the prices, I doubt there will be more competition - just more people with horrible roaming bills when they go outside of Canada.
