Re: Fastest You've Driven
My buddy bought an SRT-4 over the summer and he let me drive it. I had it 140+. That car is so shifter friendly. In that car it doesn't seem like you are going that fast.

At age 15; closed oval track, family friend's Lamborghini Countach 5000 Quattrovalvole at approximately 135... got scared and quickly dropped back under 100. Definitely a sweet ride and an unforgettable time!

140mph on the autobahn in Germany in an Audi 80. A Ferrari came out of nowhere and blew my doors off. lol.
FYI, in Germany, you have to pass inspection annually. You must provide proof of insurance. No rust holes larger than a quarter allowed. They inspect ALL the systems including headlights for proper angle, tires for damage and tread, etc. Also required is that you carry warning triangles and a first aid kit(included on the inspection checklist). At the speeds they allow for travel, it's good not to have junkers on the roadways. One accident can easily stretch for several miles and involve 30 vehicles. German citizens are required to take a driving course at their expense, (20 yrs ago about $500) and pass test to get licensed.

Re: Fastest You've Driven
To add to the autobahn discussion, I read an editorial in a car magazine once about why American drivers could never handle a highway like the autobahn in the United States.
Simply put, American drivers are not courteous to others. Meaning: we don't use our mirrors enough, and we don't move over for cars approaching at higher speeds.
I don't know how many times I've cursed at another interstate driver who either lane changed in front of me, causing me to slow down, or did not move over when I was obviously moving faster than him.

Re: Fastest You've Driven
Americans have, in general, an exaggerated sense of entitlement, which does not play well with courtesies, kindnesses and recognizing that rules and laws apply to ALL, not just people other than themselves.

Further, if they were to actually take the time to look in their rear-view mirrors, they would have to take their eyes off the road and the car's bumper less than 5 feet in front of their own (oh yeah, tailgating irritates the ever lovin' crap out of me, I mean really, is this NASCAR and are we drafting?).
This actually comes out of my recent experiences trying to help my daughter get ready for Driver Education. It is amazing how poorly teenagers actually drive these days. I know that I had my share of stupid moves when I first got my license, but nobody got hurt! Now, it seems that every day I watch the news and some teenager somewhere has been involved in a fatal accident or something else. Some of her friends that have their license already scare the crap out of me with how they drive. I won't let her catch rides with them anymore, I just won't risk it! Cars are getting faster and faster, drivers seem to be getting younger and younger, and they just can't keep up.
Sorry, I didn't mean to go off on a rant... this is just my opinion, I could be wrong.LG VX9900 (enV)

well, thanks for being a good dad paul, and keeping your daughter from becoming another one of the teenage hazards on the road.

Re: Fastest You've Driven
Driver's Ed should be required. It ain't the 1950's anymore.
Here's a sad story..Niece graduates HS, turns 18 the next day, and the day following that, moves across the country with her best friend. Within a wekk, the girls find themselves at a party..yes drinking was involved. Sometime after midnight, a couple of boys decided to make a run to the convenience store. In that they were driving a small p/u, only room for one of the girls to ride along. Niece stayed behind. A couple hours later the police showed up at the party...one vehicle accident involving a tree-- 3 fatalities. Harsh way to learn a Life 101 lesson.
