jettas are always a nice car. cheap diesel, not bad-looking, affordable. what's not to like about them?
the civic si's are looking pretty slick too. and the scions are always the good alternative. good-looking and cheap.
good luck.Hey there!

Jettas are Un-Reliable....
A used civic coupe or 4door. Amazing Gass milage! and reliability!

Re: Good car for a 16 year old??
I would go for a Civic, Corolla, or Camry. Camry is the most expensive one but the safest. All have good gas mileage, especially Civics and Corollas. They also are pretty reliable.

Re: Good car for a 16 year old??
I'd go for something cheap, and that you don't care to keep... about 85% of first cars get crashed. And I'd make it a manual shift... just so the teen learns how to shift, early, so that if it comes up in the future that the only car he/she can afford is a standard, they're not grasping at straws.
If you're gonna get a new one, get good insurance. But I'd go with a late 80s early 90s model, so it's not a coveted car.. hate to have it stolen.
Or better yet, buy a new one for yourself and give the teen your old one...

As said, jetta is not a good idea. I'd second looking for a nice civic, or a focus zx3 is a pretty nice car for cheap (has a mazda engine)

Re: Good car for a 16 year old??
In 11 days i'm getting a 2006 Ford Taurus. Not a great car, I know, but i'm only 16, so whatever. As long as it looks decent and it runs, I'm happy.
