LG VX10000 Voyager Review

I'm an ATT&T customer but REALLY want to get the Voyager. Is there any way I can purchase the phone and use it with my current carrier? If not, will the phone be available to any other carriers soon? I live in south Louisiana and Verizon sucks down here so I really don't want to change just because I want the phone - ha!

No, the Voyager is a Verizon exclusive, but I don't know why you think that Verizon sucks in Lousiana. I live in Lafayette and it work perfectly, better than any other carrier in my opinion. Best reception out of AT&T, T-Mobile, or Sprint. But if you really want the Voyager, you will have to switch over to Verizon...and it is worth it.

I received Voyager yestereday. Used it all day. Physically, the phone is robust. Iphone is sleek and sexy, but Voyager is robust and hearty. Not as thick as you'd think, and fits well in the hand. Fits into a candy bar-sized holster easily, even with the extended battery. It has a nice strong feel. Probably can withstand multiple pavement drops.

The touch screen is not as sexy as Iphone's (it performs some touch functions that Iphone's UI does, but without the pinching, tapping and pulling. (you can tap on web links with voyager, but no tap zoom, zooming is done by pressing a zoom virtual touch button) You can however, swish the internet browser around, but again not as fluidly as you can on Iphone; there's a thumbnail option that allows you to quickly move around a page.

The internal screen and keyboard are the selling points to this phone. Once you get a page open on the exterior screen (doing some touching and tapping), you can switch to the internal to type. The pullout keyboard keys are enormous for a mobile phone. This may be the fundamental reason to get the Voyager over Iphone, if you expect to be doing heavy texting and/or heavy e-mailing. Example: I'm typing this on the Voyager. You could never do that on Iphone without giving up at some point, and just using a notebook or desktop.

The haptic feedback is nice when you are typing or touching virtual buttons, but when you are browsing the internet it can be annoying. There is no shortcut button to turn off the vibration when pulling a web page around. Ultimately, you'll keep the touch buzzing off.

The speed of the internet connection is not fast. EDGE is slow, but so is 3G on this phone. Iphone is much more responsive once the page is loaded, maneuvering around a page is fast and fluid.

One problem that I noticed at one point: you cannot browse the internet or perform certain functions while talking on the phone. Another problem that arises at times, is touch lag. When you try to unlock, it takes multiple attempts to unlock. Iphone is very sensitive and responsive to touch functions. Voyager is not as responsive. On Iphone you can blaze through with a swish here and a swish there, not so on Voyager. Lists, like recent calls, etc, require that you pull a virtual scrollbar.

The sd card is a nice bonus; but really questionably an advantage,when you consider that the music player is not as user-friendly as Itunes. And if you've played with the ipod on the iphone, you'll realize how primitive Verizon's idea of a music player is. Iphone/Itouch have the most revolutionary music player on the market. Vcast works, but it's not the best out there. The VZnavigator is good, but you have to pay for it. No 3 dimensional imaging, but it's way better than some standalone GPS products I've used. If I decide to keep the Voyager, I won't be buying a standalone and just pay the monthly.

Battery-wise: the extended battery lasts a long time.

Zero sync ability with Voyager. Cannot load up calendar or contacts to the computer. Not a smartphone, but it does have a notepad function buried in the phone, so you can take notes with it.

Mobile TV. I subscribed, but for work reasons I'm currently in an area that does not service mobile t.v. Back where I live, I can get service. Mobile t.v. distinguishes Voyager from Iphone, but you can't get service everywhere, only in certain spots.

The speaker buzzes at high levels. It sounds okay though one or two notches below top volume.

Voyager will not attract current Iphone users, and will not kill the Iphone. If you want this phone, don't compare it to Iphone. If you were looking for a faster, more consistent browser outside of EDGE, don't get this phone. Iphone users will most likely not get this phone, but instead wait for the 2nd generation Iphone to come out.

All that said, Voyager is really not a bad phone, but it's not a multi-touch/Iphone-like phone. If you like a good keyboard and you're more of an analog-type person, get this.

Battery life is pretty good. I use MP3 play, phone, and game all day. The battery is nearly dead at the end of the day (about 14-15 hrs of use).

You will need a movei converter such as Total Video Converter and convert to 3gp. Quality isn't prefect, but watchable... considering it's on a phone.
After it's converted, you can store it in the My Vids folder on your SD card.

I've been using the phone for Internet access a lot, and also Mobile TV and V-Cast Videos. And the phone lasts me 1-2 days depending on how frequent I use Mobile TV (Which seems to burn the battery the most, but it is the best feature on the phone).

just recieved my voyager today.

i can't say enough about this phone.
i've never touched an iphone, so i can't compare it to it.

this phone is everything i was hoping for, and more.
i've been using an old motorola (can't remember the model #, but it was a cheap one) and so upgrading to the voyager, is amazing.
the touch screen is easy to use, big, bright, and produces great color.
i've been playing on the internet with it all day now. . .i'm absolutly blown away with it. it's a bit slow (but i do live in wyoming, and i'm going to some pretty data intensive sites,) but it's an absolute blast playing around on this phone (it's the first handelp device i've ever used to browse the web).

1 minor complaint, is the speakers. they sound great. . .as long as i don't have the volume turned all the way up. . .when they're all the way up, they rattle quite a bit, and it makes it hard to hear (it's not just the inside speakers either, it does the same thing with the ear piece).
i can deal with this however. . .even at mid volume, it produces loud enough sound for me.

i love this phone.
(i didn't sleep last night, heh. . .i'd post more, but i'm too tired to think. . .plus i'm having too much fun with my phone atm).

okay i have a few more things to add now.

today i woke up to find out that my local area is now getting v-cast.

v-cast music. . .
blech. $2 per song download? that's crazzy. . .i won't be using this at all.

this is great. you can download/watch music videos, small tv clips. news stories, and even some youtube videos.
i'm very pleased with v-cast videos. . .and it's something i'll use on a daily basisi (especialy watching the news).

i'm also in love with v-cast song id. . .i've been playing around with this alot the last couple of days and it works great.
all i have to do is activate the program, put my phone near a speaker playing a song i don't know. . .at it takes it from there, giving me the song name, artist, and album the song is from. . .it's just a really nice added feature.

the internet is loading my pages faster today because the ev-do is now covered in my area.
there are a couple minor complaints i have about the internet on this phone. . .
one thing that kind of annoys me, is that it doesm't auto log me in on websites i have accounts on (this site, ebay, hotmail, yahoo, etc.). . .i even check the "keep me signed in". . .but it logs me off anyhow.
this isn't a major problem. . .it's just something kinda annoying.
the other small complaint i have has to do with searching on ebay.
the pages take awhile to load because there's alot to them, with all the listings and gallery pictures. i can handle this. . .i'm just thrilled to be able to surf the net on my phone.
the thing is though, is that there's always a big advertisement. . .and it lakes alot longer to load up then the ebay page itself. the problem is, is that i can't veiw the rest of the ebay page untill the advertisement is fully loaded. . .adding even more time going from page to page. . .this really annoys me.

other then that though. . .i love the browser on this phone, and have been giving it a good work out.
when i wake up i check the local weather, check the new york times online newspaper, then check out my blog. it's simple, and fun.

music sounds good through the 2 front speakers, especially with the phone flipped open. (when listening to music or wtching videos on the external display with the phone closed, the speakers get covered making sound alot dimmer (quieter) and a bit muffled. it sounds fine on the extenal diaplay as long as i'm somewhere quiet. . .otherwise i use the intetnal display.

you can't listen to your music and do other things (like using the internet, or sending text messages) on this phone, which is no big deal to me, but it may be worth considering for others. (i will admit that i'd love to be able to listen to my music while on the internet though.

the camera.
i'm not the biggest fan of cammera phones. . .if this phone didn't include a camera, it would've made very little difference to my decision to buy this phone.
this being said, the camera is decent.
it's not great, but it's not horrible by any means either.
i haven't used it much either then to take some pics of my friends and family for the caller id.
it is a cool thing to have on my phone. . .but it's just not that important to me.
i wish it had a flash though.

anyhow. . .as time goes on i'm sure i'll have more to add (both goos and bad). . .for now, i've only had the phone for a couple of days. . .so i'm still in the process of getting uses to the phone.
so far i really couldn't be happier with this phone.

You are aware that the LG Voyager is not available anywhere till after the first of the year. I am an authorized rep with cellular-concepts.biz and we sell Verizon.

People are asking for that phone like mad. The fact that it opens to a qwerty keyboard is awesome.

I have the Envy and cannot wait to get the Voyager!

The Voyager is still available on line. I ordered mine the Sunday before Christmas and it was dropped off at my house on Wednesday....the day after Christmas.

Some new developments have come up lately that some might not be aware of. First, there is a update available for this phone, and I highly recommend you get it. If you haven't noticed it yet...( I did right away)...once you make a call, the numeric pad disappears from the front. If your calling some place; your bank for instance, and it requires you to put in a password, you've got to do some tapping to get the numeric keypad back up. With the update, that problem has been resolved. It also took care of some minor issues that most didn't even notice....(unless your me...and found just about every one of them).

To see what Version you are running...go to:

Settings & Tools
then to Phone Info (#11)
Then to SW/HW Version

If yours says VX10KV03 under SW Version, then you need to get your phone updated.
It should say VX10KV05

That said...my revue of this phone...both bad and good:

Love the feel....better than either the V or the enV. The inside keys are much bigger than both previous versions...gotta love that.

Both screens are awesome.....way, way bigger than both again. The outside screen is just amazing.

The full HTML browsing rocks.

The fact that the phone now lays flat again like the 9800 is a big plus.

There are many new features that neither previous version's have....all to the betterment of the phone.

I could go on for some time on the positives this phone has..both on it's own...and compared to it's two predisesor's...but I think there are enough revues out there to cover most of that.

While trying to scroll the outside screen in any mode, takes one hell of a time to get used to. You will have many...and I mean many errors before you start to get the hang of it. It does at time get very frustrating...hang in there....it gets somewhat easier.

(NOTE Don't try to scroll from the top down while going through your contacts....you have to scroll from the bottom up.

There is only basically one theme and color's for you to chose from....black and white. They do give you the option of adding a very tiny amount of color to it...but it's nothing like the enV had. (Standard Verizon themes or Navigator theme's)...this really sucks!!

They did bring back the Function Key that the 9800 had...which is kind of nice. I forgot how handy they were when I switched over to the 9900....but I quickly became used to them again.

I hate the lock key the outside touch screen has. It usually takes a couple taps to get it to unlock....they definitely need to do some work on that.

I don't like the fact, that once the front screen goes blank, you can't just touch it to bring it back up....you have to either touch one of the side keys, or one of the three keys on the bottom. It's a touch screen for God's sake....let me touch it to bring it back up.

I do like the fact that once the screen is up, you can touch anywhere to bring up the Shortcut Menu.

I like the fact that they send you everything you need with this phone....(except ear buds). They do send the Vcast Disk, and also the drivers and USB cord to hook-up right away to sinc your music or use bitpim straight from the box. (NOTE: make sure you download the latests version of bitpim...as it has the Voyager in it).

Another good thing is that if you've owned the 9900, everything you used for that phone can be used on this phone. The power cord, the USB Cord, Driver's, etc. That's was really a relief to me because when I switched from the 9800 to the 9900, I had to buy all new chargers, cables, and memory cards.

All in all...this is a vast improvement over both previous versions. It is going to take some time to get used to...but if you have the patients and are willing to mess around with shortcuts and stuff....you will love this phone.

I never liked my 9900...but got used to it....I really like this phone...so it's going to be easy to overlook some short-comings on this one.

In the end...all I can say is.....buy this phone...you won't be disappointed!

no...it won't delete anything....and it's totally free....mainly it updates the software. You will like the changes.

im real interested in getting this phone. but i went to go check it out in person and it was lacking a few things that i am used to. i currently have a treo 700p and i know its a different type of phone, but i was just wondering if anyone else has switched from a treo to the voyager. it seems to cover most of my needs but is missing just a couple

text messaging: treo logs it in as a chat, similar to aol instant messager or yahoo im. the voyager does not do this, correct?

games/applications: treo you can plug into the computer and add whatever you want. voyager requires you to download thru server, pay for internet connection, and pay for the program, is that correct?

im sure theres a few other questions i have, when i come across them ill make sure to post again
