    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I don't claim to be a tech, but like on safari (mac) or windows, a browser seems to run faster/smoother when their cache is cleared. Any info stored on your phone takes up memory just like a hard drive.

If you use the internet often on your phone, follow the above steps and see what's stored in cache file.

You have to log in to view your email (open application), your DARE checks for emails every 10 minutes give or take a few minutes, and you know this because if you set your DARE to alert you (always) upon receiving an email in your account, your DARE will do so.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

If you search the internet much keep your cache empty, keep your stored photos/videos on your sd-card not on your phone, keep text messages folders sent & inbox empty as possible, don't use video/giff as a screen saver, these hints keep your DARE running smoother, using to much memory clogs the DARE, using giff on your screen eats up memory and battery life.

Most of the above stuff is cool, but there is a price to pay if you store to much stuff on the DARE, keep a few of these hints in mind.

I use my current phone as my calendar/schedule book. I am getting the Dare within the next two months. Does anyone use their Dare's calendar and notepad/notebook functions. I would love to hear what anyone thinks of them.

Have you figured out how to clear the 'go to" cache in www?

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

That doesn't work for the saved url addresses of places you have been to.
Go to your www. and type only the first letter of a place you've been to before.. it will autotype the rest for you in the form of being able to see the "greyed out" text of the rest of the url address as the phone tries to guess where you may be trying to go.

I just upgraded my firmware to v05... that removed the old addresses, but flashing the firmware should not be the only way to remove that history.

HOWEVER! Now that I'm running firmware v05, I don't have this problem.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

    Concerning the Verizon Dare
I'm using Firmware v05.. just recently moved from v03.. these are the issues I see still unresolved:

    1. When using the camera and the zoom is put to the max setting, it usually crashes the camera.
It doesn't matter if the resolution is as high as 1600X1200 or 320X240.. about 2 seconds after the zoom slider is maxed, the camera crashes.

    2. The Browser could sure use an up and down arrow, the scroll with the finger takes way too long.. once you get back to the top, you often have to scroll "all the way" back down to the bottom to get to the next page... there has to be a better solution.
I'm running presently browser version Q7.0-1.3

    3. When editing a picture in any fashion, the resulting size of the picture is "greatly" reduced to an inferior quality.
when taking a glorious full resolution picture, it would be nice to have some sort of a choice as to what the final size and quality will be?
When sending a single picture to a friend, it would be nice to keep it as big as possible or if that is not a priority, make smaller and send several at once.

    4. Verizon needs to up the bandwidth limit for pictures from 500kb to 1000kb so we can send full resolution pictures... if we can pay 15.00 to have unlimited internet and V-Cast browsing.. what’s a another 500kb extra for an occasional big picture when having that same package?

    5. The Contrast slider when editing a picture is almost worthless, it needs much less sensitivity.. as it is now, it totally wipes out the colors as even one notch worth of Adjustment renders the picture worthless.

    6. The "software update" button in "phone info" under "settings and tools" does not seem to work yet.. it says there are no software updates even when there are... this may be a network switch that has not yet been activated.

    7. Would be nice if the Kelvin number was lower on the LED flash to make it warmer .. as it its now, everything seems too blue.. Especially skin tones.

    8. Settings of the camera need to all go back to default when the camera is turned off, or none go back to default.
The way it is now, some do and some don't....you either have to make sure to set your custom settings "back" before turning the camera off. As its too hard to remember what settings stay when changed and which ones go back to default when opening the camera again for your next use.

    9. The zoom on the camera is pretty weak.... when on full resolution there is no zoom at all and that does makes sense, but when even on the lowest resolution, the zoom is still weak when there is much more power to zoom hidden in the camera that is not being utilized?

    10. When viewing a picture already taken and saved, the zoom button at the bottom should also have more power to zoom in the slider.

    11. In Contacts, we need a space to jot notes or leave comments or addresses or maybe even phone number extensions or a note as to the preferred route of contact when at work verses home.

    12. Default phone numbers should have an option for time of day. Sometimes a work number would need to be the default, but after work hours, people prefer to be contacted through other numbers.

    13. IN the contacts list, it would be nice to have any assigned picture icons to show up on the right of the name.

    14. The "go To" button in contacts is almost worthless as it only finds or seeks the first name of the contact. If I know the first name, I will just go to it right?.. why bother using the "go to" button?

If I have a contact called "SWFA Sporting goods" and I can't remember "SWFA" and so only searched for "sporting", I could never find the contact I'm seeking. It would also be great to see all contacts with the word "sporting" in it so I can chose which one I want to use. They too should be in alphabetical order.
Surely you don't expect us to make "groups" for every plumber, grocery store, gas station, hobby shop, support, etc etc we have?.... why can't we just search for it?

    15. Pictures are not stored in alphabetical order correctly. Some appear to try to group together while others do not. If I look for every picture of a person starting with the word "David" for instance, I have to muddle through countless pictures until I go cross-eyed! Again, a "go to" button would also be nice for the pictures to locate pictures with given names.

If they were in alphabetical order, we could name them appropriately to find them later. A choice to sort by alpha or number would be great.
For pictures that have not been given a name, they would default to numerical order as it is now.
It needs to search more like the contacts search in a pda works. The cpu brainpower is there.. why not use it?

    16. Why can't we have more than 9 favorites with icons?.. we could simply scroll to the rest!

    17. When you open contacts you can see all the numbers and emails as you are given a choice of which one to use "a nice feature btw".. but how do we know which one is the one we set for default?... We need some way to know which is the default number either by it being always at the top or a little icon which states the default number.

    18. We need a higher limit to the number of contacts that can be assigned to a given group... I have allot of people I would like in one certain group but cannot add them all unless I create "another" one with a different name.. but then if I want to view everyone in that certain group, I can't because they are all mixed up into two "or more" groups?

    19. The alphabetical bar at the top of the contacts list is quite narrow making it hard to not go too high or too low with your finger "especially when in a car going down the road"... could we widen that?.. maybe make the "in case of emergency smaller or use simple button at the bottom" for that instead.

    20. The icons on the front of the phone that are dragged from the shortcut bin onto the wallpaper has "black" writing. This is impossible to read next to the black background. The color theme option does not correct this. The only way to read the writing is to cover your wallpaper picture or video that does not have a black background "which covers your picture".
We need to have a choice of font color.

Thanks for being open and asking for suggestions, bugs, and comments.... I hope this was not viewed as a gripe session but rather suggestions to make an awesome product perfect so the competition has to compete to keep up.

Isn't it a good idea to be leading the pack rather than following it? Proactive instead of "reactive"...
If someone doesn't step up to the plate to meet the need, the next guy will!

^ You should send that to Verizon. They probably won't do anything about it, but it's worth a try. The one thing I hate is (as you said) how some camera settings change back to default and others don't.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I've been reading a lot about this update and opinions have been conflicting, personally i have no problems or complaints about my DARE, so i'll leave well enough alone and not fix what ain't broken.

My attitude is kind of " wait and see " and nothing has convince me to run out and get this update... yet.

I sent it to LG... I'll have to look for verizon's appropriate place to send it to... seems the forums sometimes are the best place and they are monitored closer than their own website sometimes!

    ---------------------

Edited... I sent it to Verizon.. It took 4 sends since they have a 2000 character max! LOL!

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

Thanks for your reviews and tips on the dare aepple. I have the orange LG env and was contemplating getting the titanium voyager as I do text message A LOT, average between 2500-3000 texts a month.

Kind of concerned about the texting on the Dare. I bought it online two days ago but am having second thoughts on wether I should have gotten the Voyager. Im keeping my fingers crossed as most of the reviews (but not all) have said like you, just give it time and you will adapt to it.

Guess I will see how it goes and just try and be patient with it when I get it on monday. I guess I will just have to type a little slower.

Again thanks for your input and tips, most of the alerts or tips you mentioned I copied/pasted so I can try them out, see if I can save some time.

Also I bought The Jabra BT530 based on your review.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I have never used a real key keyboard to type on a phone... but the Word function words extremely well... if you ever do have to go to "Abc" to force a word, it remembers it for next time. It also remembers all the words in your contacts library. I rarely have to use anything except the "word" function for texting.

When you turn the phone "sideways" while texting, it turns into a full keyboard.

You should go try one out at the verizon store see how you like it.

I'm glad I have all the power of the bigger ones, plus better camera's and many better features, etc along with the small size to slip it in my pocket unnoticed.

Talk to the geeks at the Verizon store.. tell them your situation and see what they say... but if you do allot of texting while driving.. I would think the Dare would be better.. but like I say, I've never used the other ones, but I would think that one hand operation would be at best difficult and inaccurate.
