    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

After having it for a few days, here are my initial impressions.

I really like the dare. The phone is compact, fits in the hand or pocket nicely. Touch screen works beautifuly. Have made a few mistakes where I go to scroll and it selects the item instead, not many but a few. Is just a learning curve.

I originally thought I was going to have to trade in for the voyager, as I am a big texter, and it is a little bit slower for me on this phone, with all the steps you have to go through to do a text, or add a contact. On my env, i would lock a text from all my friends i text a lot to, and had my shourtcuts set up where I push the arrows to the right to open my inbox, scroll down to who i want to text, and just hit reply. Instead of having to go new text, add contact, etc...

I really do like this phone and decided I love everything about it and some of the things that I am not used to such as texting fast, i will just have to take my time and just slow down a little and learn to use it the best i can.

On the env if you are typing a message and needed to use the comma, you just hit shift and the comma key, seems like to me on this i have to hit the 123 key to bring up the symbols, then hit comma, then abc back to continue typing. If someone were to ask my honest opinion on this phone my response will be " I love the phone, it is a great phone, however if you do text a lot like i do you may find yourself going a little slower than you used to. If you still need to go as fast as you used to you may want the Voyager. But the Dare is an awesome phone"

Im going to stick with it and learn the ins and outs of it because it is a very nice phone.

will report back when I get some more time on it. I did use some of aepple's tips, such asusing the call button to send the text instead of hitting done, then send. Just takes out one less step that is not needed.

Can you guys give me some insight into the stock ringtones and also customizing your own? That's one thing I'm into with my Samsung I760? With previous phones I had to edit & modify them and then email them to my phone. With the 760, I just make them, throw my memory card in my laptop, transfer the tones and then stick the little guy in my phone and copy and paste them to the sounds folder.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

There is no way to edit the stock ringtones that I have found short of special software and a computer.

As far as making your own... thats easy... then just send them to your inbox and save them as a ringtone.

NOTE.... I would also save them as sound on your card too, so if and when your phone dies or you change, you still have them and can again resend them to your inbox to save them as ringtones.

however I do wish the Dare had an edit function for sounds
"like they do for video"..... that way we could record our own sounds "like our grandchildren etc" and edit out the parts we don't want to save them as ringtones.

I wanted to add that I really like the Dare. I purchased the Moto Krave originally and returned it as after my wife purchased the Dare and found it to sound better move faster and have a nicer screen.

This is my first non flip phone in a long time and I have to say no issues with random phone calls yet.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I have an 8700 thinking about going to a DARE. Can you tell me if Dare's calendar will sync with google calendar and how? And is it any bigger, more room for entries, easier to read? I can sync my 8700 with google calendar using bitpim, but was wondering if I could sync the Dare w/o going through bitpim? Thanks.

Yea! There are only 1 or 2 wireless devices (camera wise) that can beat the Dare...

Here's the problem, now Kodak is making a complaint and a lawsuit which may prohibit any cell cams from getting any better than the Dare's...

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

First off, thanks for the review. I found this to be one of the most informative reviews of the Dare.

My question revolves around the music player. How is the quality of the MP3? I've seen some reviews say the music controls are poor. I usually such reviews with a grain of salt as the average user never uses most of the controls. My current MP3 player I have on “shuffle repeat” and other than skipping songs I rarely do much more than listen to the music that's randomly selected for me.

It says it has stereo Bluetooth. Has anyone paired the Dare up to a Bluetooth receiver? My car stereo has Bluetooth audio and I'm interested to know if anyone has paired the Dare up for MP3 playback? Is the quality good?

Thanks for any real life experiences.
    Art.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I haven't tried a bluetooth link for music... good Idea though.. I didn't even know if it would do that.

If you have any details as to how to do that ... please post them... I have a jack that will tie into my sound system.. but bluetooth would be much nicer.

But thats quite comical that Kodak is making a lawsuit... as if they own the camera industry or something? LOL!... maybe kodak should go in the phone business!

I don't know the details, but whats the difference if a phone does good pictures verses another camera competitor?

What I like about a phone is that I have it with me everywhere... if kodak wants to turn their cameras into phones, then they can talk.. until then, its not about what Kodak wants that makes the world go round, its what the consumer wants.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

    Another couple of questions.

Calendar Functions - My assumption is that the calendar function is a full function calendar? Reoccurring events with alarms, snooze functionality, etc?

Notepad/Memo - Does it have one?

Synchronization/backup - Can you synchronize/backup the information in the phone to your computer?

After you have backed up to a computer, can you access the information from your computer? Is there an application that allows access to your contacts from your laptop?

Data Migration. I have a Palm Treo right now. Will I be able to migrate the contacts, memos and calendar events from my Treo to the Dare? I don't mind exporting to excel or delimited format and then importing to the Dare.

If you haven't figured it out yet I'm trying to see what functionality if any I'll have to give up moving from my Treo to a Dare. The main reasons I’m looking to upgrade are because of the MP3 player with Blue tooth audio and the camera quality.

One more about the MP3. Has anyone found a review of the music quality of the Dare? Signal to Noise Ratio, Harmonic Distortion, etc.?

    Thanks in advance,
    Art.

    Re: RealTime LG DARE REVIEW

I can't answer all of these because I am not a true geek.. only "geeky" and this phone is one of my many toys.

Calendar Functions - My assumption is that the calendar function is a full function calendar? Reoccurring events with alarms, snooze functionality, etc?
You can choose to repeat an event... "Once, Daily, Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly"
Yes it has alarms, but no snooze...
you didn't ask, but the alert times "Before the alarm happens" are as follows.. it goes from "none" to "on time, 5min, 10min, 15min , 1 hour, 1 day or 2 days"

Notepad/Memo - Does it have one?
yes it does have one.. but its not attached to any contact or person.. simply a place to jot notes and save each one as a file as sorts.

Synchronization/backup - Can you synchronize/backup the information in the phone to your computer?

After you have backed up to a computer, can you access the information from your computer? Is there an application that allows access to your contacts from your laptop?
It will Sync, but I've never used it.. I think it only works with the software provided "Rhapsody" and its for music. I'm not aware of any sync abilities with contacts etc... as you know, its not a pda "yet" LOL! But since I've not installed "any" of the software.. another will have to answer.

There is a free backup assistant... it backs up changes to your contacts and keeps them synced with verizons online site. You can go online and browse or change your contacts information and when you either sync manually or let it sync on its own "at a time you set.. like in the middle of the night" it will update then. As with any sync, it normally updates the internet site with the information from your phone.. but if you go online and it sees the most updated change was done with your computer online, then it will update your phone.

A Very handy tool if you loose your phone, or whenever you upgrade.

Data Migration. I have a Palm Treo right now. Will I be able to migrate the contacts, memos and calendar events from my Treo to the Dare? I don't mind exporting to excel or delimited format and then importing to the Dare.
    don't know

If you haven't figured it out yet I'm trying to see what functionality if any I'll have to give up moving from my Treo to a Dare. The main reasons I’m looking to upgrade are because of the MP3 player with Blue tooth audio and the camera quality.
Don't use my mp3 much... seems the "stereo" phones, or rather phones with "two" physical speakers, sound the best if played through speakers... I haven't tried plugging in a headset etc yet.
But I do "love" the camera quality... although I would love better and more editing functions... from what I hear, it blows away most other phones.
The picture quality is indeed stunning and it even looks good on the display.... when you get around to putting it on your computer is when you really see what 3.2mp does for you!
The panorama function works quite well once you play with it a bit.
