Disturbance diverts London-D.C. flight - Yahoo! News

BOSTON - Fighter jets escorted a diverted London-to-Washington, D.C., flight to Boston's Logan airport Wednesday after a distraught passenger pulled out a screw driver, matches, Vaseline and a note referencing al-Qaida, an airport spokesman said.

United Flight 923 landed safely, Logan airport spokesman Phil Orlandella said.

The flight, with 182 passengers and 12 crew members landed safely, UAL Corp. spokesman Brandon Borrman said. Borrman said a female passenger was spotted engaging in some "suspicious" activity, but he could not immediately say what the activity was.

State Police and federal agents met took control of the plane after it landed.

Passengers were seen coming off the plane on the tarmac and being loaded onto a bus. Orlandella said their carry-on luggage was being checked.

The flight from London's Heathrow Airport was scheduled to land at Dulles International Airport outside Washington, Transportation Security Administration spokeswoman Amy von Walter said. According to Von Walter, the fighter jets launched and trailed the flight out of an abundance of caution.

Last week, British authorities said they foiled a terror plot to blow up trans-Atlantic flights from London to the United States.
What was he planning to do with a screwdriver, vaseline, and matches?? I can only think of one thing, but it doesn't really involve matches...

It was a "she", 60 years old at that, and she produced none of the above listed items. Some idiot at the airport jumped the gun and make a quick public statement that wasn't fact at all. She got in a fight with the cabin crew, apparently she's claustrophobic (*****ing?) and freaked out. Pilot decided to declare emergency to be on the safe side.

Perhaps in hind-sight, it was an overreaction. But quite frankly, I'm a little tired of passengers who think that the airlines owe them everything. Times have changed, and we need to respect the new regulations.

In this case, if the lady truly was clausterphobic, perhaps that should have been brought to the attention of the crew before take-off. It could have prevented a lot of the problems.

    Just my 2 cents.

I'm still having problems with it. Can someone resize that picture for me? I suck.
