Hello,
I'm currently with Verizon but I want to switch to Cingular, get a razr, and the 550 min family problem. I can get the razr at Best Buy for $80, but the problem is that my fiance, who would join the plan with me, is currently an ATT customer and needs to be converted to Orange. I'm not sure if Best Buy will be able to do that. I also thought about signing up online and getting the LG2000 for free, but again, I don't think her account can be converted with that method.
Does anyone know if I can sign up for a personal plan at Best Buy / cingular online and THEN go to a cingular store with my fiance and switch to a family plan w/out penalty?
Any advice?
Thanks!

Batman...
you don't mention if your fiance's account is still under contract.
i think it would be easier for you to joined your fiance's account after she switches over to the Orange network and change it to a family plan... problem is that if her contract term has not ended she will still need to fullfill it....
and yes, if you get your own account you can switch your plan after you go to Best Buy, you can just call customer service and have them make the changes but that will cost you an additional $18 to switch...and then there's also the issue of your fiance's account with ATT if it's still under contract.

THanks for the advice. She's still under contract but Cingular said when she switches she gets the new customer discount since she HAS to buy a new phone when she migrates.
$18 isn't so bad...

I switched my two accounts to a family plan and got the $18 fee taken off... ...and unlimited text messaging for a month, and the pro-rated charges taken off as well...so yes give em a call after you switch....good luck.

Thanks for the help. I ended up getting a Samsung for free from a Cingular store (after rebate). I had not realized the Razr has no headphone jack. I wasn't about to fork over another $100 for a bluetooth headset when I'm prefectly happy with my wired headset.
I signed up for the personal plan and now she has to do the COFR / migration stuff so we can get the family plan.
I doubt I can talk them into that kind of discounts....I'm horrible at finagling that kind of stuff

Even if the Razr can be used with a 2.5 headset using an adapter, I was kinda happy I had an excuse to save $150.
BUT today I used my headset for the first time in the Samsung x497 and it doesnt work properly!!! How's that for irony?? It's very buggy - dropped calls, low volume. Now I get to go through the fun process of returning it. Not looking forward to that headache since I can't go to the store I bought it at and probably won't be able to finagle the same deal (free after $30 rebate). Doh!

So Motorola does have a wired one? I read up on the 2.5mm adapter and people weren't too happy with it.
I'm taking back the Samsung so I may end up with a Razr after all.
I didn't notice before but I didn't see headset jacks on other bluetooth phones like Moto 557 and Sony E 520. Do those phones have adapters?
On the plan front, we spent an hour at Cingular today while they helped migrate my fiance's account. That ridiculous process (including putting it in my name) will take 3 weeks, THEN we can finally join a family plan.
Now we just have to get her Moto V600 unlocked so she can swap the new orange sim card in and keep using it.....

Batman,
I know the V557 has a headphone jack on the top of the phone. At least that had better be a wired headphone jack, because I have used as one!

BlkBear - ohh, I wasn't sure. Does it have a cover on it when you buy it?
