I bought a crappy phone when I became a cingular member and so I bought an unlocked Razr from a friend for a good price. I don't know if cingular knows about my razr or if I am not allowed to buy it from a friend and use it.
the problem is that now the razr is giving me problems charging...i was wondering if I can trade in the Razr and possibly get a new one using the insurance i bought from my previous phone.
Thanks alot for any help!!

The only phone that your insurance will cover is the one that Cingular has listed on your account. Seeing that you purchased a used phone from your friend, I don't think you called Cingular to even tell them that you changed phones, right?

So most likely they won't, but go ahead a give a quick call to CS and see what they say.

Also it won't be Cingular that has insured the phone, but rather Lockline (sp) and if you did not contact the insurance company to have them switch the coverage to the new phone, you are stuff either buying a new Razr or going back to your old phone that is not acting up.
And Lockline is going to want to know if the phone was bought new or not, and if you have the original sales ticket on it. Why? Well simple, they way to know that the ohone was new and without possible user caused problems before it was insured.
Time to drag out your copy of the insurance info and READ it, before you try anything that will have you tagged trying insurance fraud. They really don't care if you don't know it's fraud or it's an accident that you tried to get the wrong phone covered, you'll just get your current insurance cancelled if they suspect fruad, and you won't be able to get insurance for a phone (with Cingular anyway under your own name).

Your insurance covers only the phone that you registered with the insurance contract. Unfortunately, the new razr you bought from a friend is not covered. I was going to buy a phone from a reputable company on eBay. I have since changed my mind. Not only will there be no warranty, but when at&t completely changes to cingular, this phone will probably not work for it. All I was told was that I could pput the sim card in the new/used phone and not change my plan, which is better than the new plans offered now. They forgot to tell me the rest of the story. Sorry, sounds like you are stuck with the razr, except to just buy a new one, or new plan.
