Re: Puk Unlock
hmmm...is that the only possible sol'n you can come up with? How about returning it to a cingular store? If thats not possible, call cingular cs and ask how it might be possible to reunite the owner with the phone? Wouldn't you have been thankful and amazed had somebody done the same for you?
Also, what was so compelling about the voicemail that wasnt meant for you either? If the phone worked before you attermpted to guess the PIN to retrieve the voicemail, then you would have had access to the phone book and could have tried to locate the owner thru a contact.
Also, who paid for the phone you lost and its replacement? Just curious.
I just hope that replacing the phone isn't an economic hardship on its owner.

Or you take it to a Cingular store (same results).
But since the phone is not registered to your account, without spending money, you ain't getting past that PUK lockout. And manybe not even if you do spend money.
And if you had to try to guess the SIM Pin number, then yes the owner added a SIM pin code to keep people out of the phone if found (always a good idea to change it from it's default). I always have a SIM pin and a phone PIN, to keep the avg Joe from rebooting the phone to try to get around it.

Re: Puk Unlock
Hopefully thr rightful owner called Cingular when he lost his phone. That way they can blacklist the IMEI # on the phone, making it a fancy paperwieght and anyone who "found" the phone couldn't use it. Then the only thing left to do would be to return it to the true owner through the suggestions mentioned in this thread.

Re: Puk Unlock
That would have been the thing to do from the beginning, but since the finder of the phone wanted to listen to the voice messages and tried to guess the PIN, it then required a PUK PIN (an added layer of security). tried to guess it and ultimately rendered the phone disabled and SIM blocked as well. Suffice it to say that the phone is of abslute no use for communication purposes for the finder. I believe, in order to get the PUK PIN, you have to be able to give the service provider info that only the owner would have(more security).

Re: Puk Unlock
You'll need to call customer service for the puk code. And if you've tried more than 10 times, the sim is burnt.
Getting a new sim won't be much help. The sim needs to be registered with the network to work.
On a less technical note, if I lost my phone and someone found it, I would be thrilled - even if the sim was burnt. $25 for a new sim is a heck of a lot cheaper than getting a new phone.
