Windows XP Install Troubles

After going through are series of screens I always get the blue screen of death! It looks like a memory location error. I bought new memory and still get the error. Help me!!!

what exactly does the error read

try to reset you Bios-Defaults

WindowsXP can be tempermental on a whole range of things.

There are ways of determining the error message - one of the guys I work with is a dictionary of the translations from microsoft jargon to human readable :P

Unfortunately sometimes you need to strip everything back to bare bones (video card, ram, hdd, fdd, cdrom drive) and then install XP .. once installed, install one card / peripheral at a time ..

this includes drives/etc (I had a computer today that wouldn't boot with the Zip drive enabled in the bios, yet disabling it - XP started, then told me the drive was active .. strange thing) ..

if you find you can't get XP installed with the bare essentials, see if you can swap your video card for something fairly generic (like a TNT2) .. failing that, check for motherboard firmware updates ..

if all this fails - chances are your mobo is flakey ..

oh....! if you've overclocked, this can do it too .. when the processor crunches a calculation and is too warm it'll jump and miss the track ..

What happens when you get an error report and it asks if you want to send a report? Do Microsoft ever do anything with the report you send? Ever since I installed my Broadband modem, regedit keeps coming up with an error on boot up. I've sent the report each time (only cos I've never done it before).

I only ever get error reports on Internet Explorer and a few other applications, but it only happens sporadically so I just assume it's my computer running out of memory (or just generally being crap!).

If it was something like regedit that was asking to send a report though, I would send the report coz that's a bit more important than IE. You could try searching the net to find out if other people are having your same problem. Might be something simple...

Every one else examined this, so I will do the same...

1. Maybe you don't have the Min. Req. for XP...
2. Or maybe it is just the fact that it is Windows....
I personally choose that latter....LOL

I have seen this error before when someone tried to
install XP off a flakey CD-R.
It would get to a certain place in the installation, then
blue-screen.
It was fairly repeatable.

Use original disks, or if using a backup, check that it is not flakey, and can be read by that particular drive.

an exellent advice, though it takes a long time to format a very large disk capacity. hey, try upgrading your os to xp instead of getting a fresh clean installation..
