Any recommendations for custom computer builders? Should I buy now or wait until right before I go to college to purchase?
I know Apple and AMD have new 64 Bit processors, but I was wondering if intel plans on releasing their own anytime soon.

I think you should wait until before you go to college. Most of the times they have a better configuration than what they have now

If you wait until you go, it will most likely be cheaper.

If you wait, you will wait for the rest of your life. These people have an inate knack of making us wait. Suppose today they make something, then after few days, there will be something newer.Anyways, when does college start?

The new AMD 64bit chips are very nice Intel wont be long behind them, they are perfecting the chips.
My honest opinion is too stick with the older chips for at least another 8 months watch the prices of the 64bit chips fall and then purchase one

You could get an AMD 2600+ (i think it's very cheap), as it would offer a good performance/price ratio

yeh, right now, there really is no need for the AMD 64 or the upcoming pentium. its liker saying "o i need to go buy a G5" there really is no practical use for processors like this. for college, you might wanna consider something from dell or gateway. good quality, inexpensive, and great customer service

Re: Computer for college
It is very hard to recommend a specific builder or company. You will soon find out that you will get what you pay for so the more expensive brands are generally well made and reliable. The biggest issue with buying a custom computer is that it may be difficult to downsize if you are going from more powerful desktop hardware to less powerful hardware for a laptop. Additionally, keeping your hardware updated and on time with operating system upgrades is extremely important so keep this in mind when making a purchase.
