I have had my comp for a year or 2 now.
I usually leave it on so it can download.
I rarely turn it off.
Now that I have really no time to do enjoy my downloads, i turn off my computer more often.
THe problem is though that when I turn it on after a whole day of being off. It gets towards the windows logo and then shuts off.
It does this like 5 times then it finally stays on.
Anyone knows whats the problem? i assume its because of it being on for so long.

Re: Computer randomly shuts off.
One of a few things from my experience. (other than the typical scan for junk on your system.)
You're overheating somewhere. Motherboard, PSU, something. A fan is stopping at some point.
Boot up with the case open and just make sure.
Pop in a windows disk, try a recovery.
Do a safe mode boot and recover from your last check point.
.........
Are you getting boot disk failure errors? Are you getting virtual memory crashes at any point?
It could honestly be a few things. I have used those various fixes in the past and all have worked on various occasions except the one time where the processor thermal paste was rotted to hell and couldn't transfer heat tot he sink. It was full blown 100+ celcius by the time it hit the logo splash.

Re: Computer randomly shuts off.
Bear with me, this is a bit hard to explain and baffled even my most tech inclined friend. A few weeks ago, we had a power outage, and my machine cut off. The computer itself came back fine, the fan was working, etc, but the monitor was stuck in "Standby" with the orange light on. The only other thing not working was my USB mouse. I tried unplugging, etc, and nothing helped. I tried switching out monitors with no luck, I tried using a PS/2 mouse with no change. When I unplugged the monitor, it came back on and said "Video cable unplugged" it only did he standby thing when plugged into the computer tower. I took the battery out of the computer and let it sit for a while, put it back in, and the computer came back on in an hour or so. I'd been using that method for the past two weeks, but last night it went back off with NO prompting. No storm, no electricity flicker, nothing, and it hasn't come back on. ANY ideas?
